The group plans to take on the Orc Fortress located east of Trawis. We have a small force of Crossbowmen and Cavalry.
We know that these Orcs have bill-guisarmes, at least most of the ones we faced. Do they have a Standard? THERE IS NO STANDARD.
It is full sunlight so these Orcs will suffer a -1 to hit. In the radius of Protective Statue in Trawis, they will also suffer a -2 to hit, -1 damage, -1 saves. It functions essentially as a Protection From Evil.
Before the field of battle, we arrive with our forces.
Jacob has a Sabertooth Tiger and a Giant Snake under his command.
We mark the map, the blue and purple tokens are the leaders and the green are normal Orcs. In the back is a Subchief and his Guards, who are considered to be more powerful than the normal Orcs.
You can never pick a target at ranged fire.
He does 2d4+1 damage and does double damage from a charge. This instantly kills one of the Leaders and another Leader! First Blood! 2 Orcs are dead.
The Heavy Crossbowmen need a 13 to hit and do 1d4+1 damage, 2 of them hit and do 4 and 2 damage, but this does not kill any Orcs.
There are 5 bill-guisarme attacks per Heavy Horseman charger as these are defensive attacks. They need 18s to hit the Horsemen and there are 2 hits, another 2 hits, and 1 hit for 2d4 damage each. 2 of the Heavy Horsemen are now dead. However, NONE of them hit Galador!
The Jump spell goes off and lasts for 10 rounds.
Entangle is cast on one group by our Druid, Galeria and the Jump spell can go up to 30'. Archers fire and one Orc is now dead from an arrow. Adaeril moves 15“ to engage and the Orcs evade the Entangle spell. Thorgard is in melee and there is 1 hit against Thorgard who takes a small amount of damage. There is 1 hit against Galeria for 2 damage and 1 hit on Rhinock who takes 5 damage. Adaeril takes 7 damage.
3 of our Crossbowmen are now dead and there is 9 points of damage against the Sabertooth Tiger.
Aderil's horse takes 7 damage and Rhinock takes 2 damage. The Heavy Horseman takes 3 damage and another 7 damage is done to the Horse.
The Orcs have AC 7/6. Adaeril does 8 damage and kills one then he begins to cast Protection From Evil.
The Subchief counts as a Leader for purposes of Morale, etc.
The Protection from Evil spell goes off and lasts for 8 rounds. Galador does 5 damage to an Orc while Delemir casts Hold Person and all of the Leader Orcs fail their saves! There are now 3 Held Orcs.
Rhinock kills one of the Leaders. Jacob kill another Leader and Galeria does 20 damage to one of the held Leaders. They are now dead. Thorgard kills another Leader. Meanwhile, the Snake does not kill an Orc but the Tiger does 2 damage to one. A Warhorse also kills one.
Thorgard's Warhorse is hit for 6 damage and the Orcs do 4 damage to Galeria's Horse. The Orcs begin to attack Adaeril and all of them miss! Jacob takes 3 damage and his Tiger, with an AC 6, is missed. There is 1 hit on the Snake for 4 damage. Another Crossbowman is hit and goes down, he is dead. Rhinock gets his 2nd attack on odd rounds but misses.
Adaeril attacks along with his Warhorse. He hits for 7 damage and kills one and his Warhorse only does 1 damage to another Orc.
We have killed 6 this round but there are still 97 left.
Our Warhorses need a 9 to hit and there is 1 hit against Galeria. Adaeril is missed but Rhinock is hit for 3 damage. Jacob is at AC -2 so all of the Orcs on him missed. There are 2 hits on the Snake for a total of 5 damage. It is still alive! The Tiger is hit 3 times and takes a total of 12 damage. It has 7 hp left.
Rhinock gets his second attack and does 4 damage.
The next round, Adaeril casts Mirror Image and his Warhorse attacks.
More of the Orc Leaders move to engage in the battle.
There is one hit against Thorgard who takes 6 damage. Galeria is hit once and takes 3 damage. There are no Hits on Adaeril. There is one hit against the Snake and it takes 7 damage. THE GIANT SNAKE IS DEAD! The Sabertooth Tiger takes 5 damage.
Delemir casts Hold Person, which goes off successfully. One of the Subchiefs is held!
Adaeril casts Mirror Image and there are now 3 Mirror Images of Adaeril. It lasts for 8 Rounds. Adaeril's Warhorse attacks and does 3 damage.
Rhinock attacks AC 6/6 for the Orcs. He hits and does 2 damage and another 2 damage.
We killed 6 Orcs this round and 2 more are held!
Adaeril attacks one of the Leaders as Delemir charges in and does 5 damage to one of the leaders, who have AC 4/4.
Adaeril's Warhorse kills one of the Leaders after dealing 12 damage! Thorgard has also killed one!
The Orcs must now roll a Morale Check and THEY FAILED THEIR MORALE CHECK.
All of the Orcs surrender!
Adaeril can speak the Orc tongue and tells them to throw down their weapons along with their coin purses. The Leader does not offer himself as a hostage but they all begin to flee into the plains after they leave behind their stuff.
We take 160 gp back.
We have 6 Orc prisoners that were held by the Hold Person spell so we will interrogate them.
They are called the SHATTERED FANG TRIBE and this is their Fortress. Their garments are a greenish purple and repulsive. Their shields are also trimmed with this color. In the fortress is the Chief and all of their families.
“How many fighting Orcs are there?” Adaeril asks.
“There is another force as big as this one.” Adaeril slaps him to see that he is telling the truth and he is not lying. Another Orc shouts out that we should not attack the fortress. He says that they have siege weaponry.
There is only one gate through the palisade and they also have catapults and ballistae. Their territory is the plains and the hills and the lake in the mountains. He tells us that there has been unrest in the fortress ever since a foul magic was lain upon them and their families.
We take these Orc prisoners with us and depart.
We move one hex toward the south west hills and begin looking to the north hex.
This is uneventful travel. The palisade Orc fortress is built in the center of the plains. Theres a bit of tree cover in the area and a grove that has an ill feeling about it. The palisade is made of thick logs and can support siege weaponry. There is only one place for a gate.
There is a gorge to the north and some small rivers that disappear into the gorge.
Adaeril casts Invisibility on his Warhorse and Savina casts Phantom Armor on Galeria.
We will make camp.
Rhinock is keeping watch during the overnight when he notices a large force approaching, shrouded in the blackness of the night. They are marching through the hills and coming in our direction. They are humanoid and there is probably 100 of them. These are more Orcs from the fortress, come to get their revenge no doubt.
The Orcs have set upon us. There are 20 of them plus 3 Leaders.
Adaeril casts Magic Missile and does 5 damage on one of the Leaders, who still alive. Delemir kills one.
There is one attack that hits Adaeril for 4 damage and another attack on Jacob does 4 damage. They all miss Delemir. There are 3 hits on Thorgard for 12 damage and 9 damage on Galeria, -1 damage which is absorbed by Phantom Armor.
Adaeril hits one for 7 damage and kills it. He then whistles for his Warhorse to attack and he continues to attack in melee. Delemir casts Sanctuary on Galeria.
After their Leader is killed, they surrender again. We take more prisoners!
We have beaten the Orc forces twice and taken them prisoner!
Heal spells are cast on the party and Adaeril casts Invisibility on Galeria.
We make it back to Mombafra.
