We are heading back to Wistari village to buy some armor.
We recall that Gel'Sha'il was part of a group or “movement” from an ancient time called “The Way of the Red Wode”.
As we travel through the forest, Fandillas' Hawk Familiar spots what it thinks are Rhinoceri, but we make it back to the village without incident or encounter. We arrive at night.
The Wistari Wood Elves will sell us armor at normal price. Adaeril buys Banded Armor for 90 gp from the Elves. We also attempt to sell some of the goods we found last time. The Elves are interested in the paintings, the 12 large, 12 medium and 18 small paintings we recovered. They cannot identify any of the Elves in the paintings as they are over 2000 years old.
The Elves join us in a conversation about the Red Wode but none of them know any more about it than we do. Nothing else was said by the Clerics about the Red Wode. Was Gel'Sha'il a member? That is a good question but it is presumed so.
All they know is that Gel'Sha'il was that he was the lead Cleric at the Reliquary ages ago. It was once a secret meeting place of the Red Wode and they did not know what Gel'Sha'il looked like. All of the paintings we recovered are unlabeled and all are on wood cutouts, very faded.
They have a learned knowledge of the past through spoken tales even when they uncovered writings that allude to it however they learned of Gel'Sha'il by communing with the gods specifically. They say that there are multiple layers to the planes and he must be freed from bondage from “Bull-Rock”. The Elves know that Gel'Sha'il is a Cleric of Cine but cannot ascend because he was bound 2000 years ago.
It is 2 days each way to the Reliquary of Gel'Sha'il, either coming or going.
Adaeril has paid 800 gp for upkeep. Meanwhile, Fandillas has come down with a severe intestinal parasite (parasite roll) and takes a -1 STR and -1 CON. Only a HEAL spell will cure this affliction which is a 6th level spell.
We are all paid up on our upkeep and on disease / parasite rolls.
We start to head back to the Reliquary.
Randimir is using his magic ring and is awake. The previous day was uneventful on the way back,
Galeria and Randimir hear sudden movements coming from all directions. It is on the night of the first day of travel so we have -1 on EVERY DICE and a -2 for Surprise. The encounter is 60 yards away. There is movement in the darkness and something has surrounded us as they dart from tree to tree. They look humanoid, about the size of a man.
They have a 12“ charge and move at 1.2 inches per segment or 2.4 inches for 2 segments. They are 5.6” away or 56 yards.
Randimir casts Sleep while Galeria tries to parley. She must make a Reaction check. Randimir's spell goes off but effects only one of the creatures. However, the creature is not slowed at all by Sleep. They suddenly break through from the darkness and we are surrounded by 10 Dark Ghouls. They charge into the party on their initiative.
There are 2 Ghouls on Adaeril, 1 on Sarkas, 5 on Randimir and 2 on Galeria. They hit on 11 and all 3 hit Randimir. He takes 12 damage from first Ghoul alone, a claw hits for 2, a bite for 1, for a total of 7 hits and he takes another 4 damage. Randimir drops! Randimir is now unconscious. Randimir is down at -2 and must 12 paralysis checks. Adaeril takes 3 damage and then 12 damage.
Adaeril casts Jump to jump into a nearby tree while the Wand of Fear is used by Fandillas. Galeria is in melee with 7 Ghouls while Sarkas is turning. All of the Ghouls are successfully turned! He manages to destroy one of the Ghouls.
The GHOUL PARALYSIS is 1d10+2 turns.
We make our escape and then head back to the Wistari village.
It is midday as we are traveling back. Fandillas's Hawk warns pack of Wolves in the woods up ahead. However, we evade the Wolves.
Randimir is given a bed and his wounds are treated. Randimir's bedrest starts. We head to Criss Antha and Adaeril purchases a Guard Dog.
We learn that Ghouls can be found throughout all of the Hollow. Adaeril and Fandillas are riding back to Criss Antha.
Our 1st day of travel is uneventful but there is a strangeness in the air. Although there is nothing actually in the air, there are strange movements in the woods. It is as if the forest is in discomfort and is uneasy.
On the second day of travel we pass by a low, very old looking small tower that rises through the trees. It is made of moss covered bricks and looks like a traditional chess tower. Fandillas's Hawk sees a group of small creatures on the top of the tower. The Hawk tells Fandillas's that there is a huge group ahead.
We take note of the Tower in the forests of the Hollow to come back later.
The rest of the days are uneventful. Healing spells are costly and it costs 1,000 gold for the HEAL spell. FANDILLAS OWES ADAERIL 1,000 GP for the HEAL spell.
Adaeril purchases a GUARD DOG.
AC 6 Move 12" HD 2+2 (12) THAC0 16 One attack at 2d4 Standard Magic Resistance Semi-Intelligent
The first day of our journey back is uneventful.
On the second day Fandilas Hawk alerts him to a horde of Humanoids heavily armed and armored, an unruly mass. They heard the sounds of Orc voices, filled with bloodlust, coming from the horde.
On the same day, we begin looking for a place to rest and find an even bigger group of Orcs. There are well over 200 Orcs in this horde. The party believes that the horde might fight the other group of Orcs which could leave a battleground to scavenge at a later time, after the battle.
We make it back to the Wistari village where Randimir is still resting, Galeria has gotten an idea to see which animals are nearby. There are multiple groups of tracks of huge herd animals (Rhinocerous) and signs of an Owlbear and some large animals in the area. The Norlups (a type of Green Dinosaur) are also found around here.
The Wistari village gets visitors occasionally such as Merchants passing through the woods with over 100 Mercenaries accompanying them. We discover that these Merchants have gems, cloths and fabrics, robes made by other Elves. They like turquoise in the Wistari village. We are told that the Merchants have something special for sale: they can sell us a suit of +1 Leather Armor, but we decline the offer as it is too expensive.
We head back into the woods…
We have been surrounded and the Hawk did not notice.
Throughout the trees of the forest, we spot Men on stout horses wearing furs and leathers. They have great axes on their backs and are approaching us carefully. They currently surround us and are about 3“ away (30 yards away).
They tell us to “Declare our allegiance”. We tell them we are headed to the Wistari village. They tell us that they are uncertain that we are who we say we are. We see that they are dressed as Berserker tribes but they do not identify themselves.
The men laugh confidently after we tell them of the Orcs. “Bull Brow Castle” is where these men are from. They are made proud and they defend the western plains from the evils that plague the lands.
We part ways peacefully.
The travel back is uneventful after that.
Galeria locates a Giant Owl in the forest and she can use it to use it to steal the magic leather armor from the merchants. However, we ask her, what is to stop them from shooting it out of the sky?
Randimir has come back from bedrest.
The hawk does not see anything but it can smell something that is unnatural. The overwhelming scent is off putting!
We continue traveling carefully and we catch a whiff of something in the air, like the scent of a skunk. We know that there are Giant Skunks and they are not to be trifled with. Maybe it is a SKUNK APE?
We never see the source of the smell.
We continue on through the forest.
The Hawk sees several creatures blinking around in the woods and Adaeril's Guard Dog is alert.
We avoid them and go around the area of the Blink Dogs and we make it to the Reliquary by mid day on the 26th.
We open the Reliquary and see several skeletal forms wearing broken armor and grasping old swords.
We enter…
The party opens the door to the west and Adaeril cast Strength on himself. After we open the door, we see a Barracks full of beds and such all cast about. There are some Elven skeletons wearing punched and destroyed armors, rusted swords. There is a faint smell of brimstone here.
Adaeril searches for things amongst the bodies and beds while Randimir looks for secret doors with Fandillas. 10 minutes we search and find nothing of value and no secret doors.
We head out the west door after we finally open it after two tries. This area appears to have been used for Elven hygiene rituals. There is cracked pottery and basketry made of wicker that has dry rotted along with some broken glass and stone.
We find an ancient etching of an Elf in full battle dress and another in a robe. The incense in here was taken by Kek.
The Rod of Alertness has a Detect Evil ability that functions as does the Paladin's Ability and it has a range of 12”. The Rod of Alertness is made by a Cleric of 8th level. When we push open the door, Adaeril uses the Rod to Detect Evil through the east door. He senses something so he casts Protection from Evil which lasts for 8 rounds. We get the door open…
Inside the room with two chairs where the cushions have been torn apart, it appears as though something has ransacked the place. In here we can spot two foul DRETCH creatures.
Adaeril pull out his bow and Sarkas sets for a charge. The Dretches charge at us and meet us as soon as the Stinking Cloud finishes. They both attack Fandillas who has an AC 4. They have 3 attacks each.
It takes 2 segments to switch weapons and Fandillas will not be able to shoot. Fandillas takes 3 and then 4 damage from Dretches.
Galeria hit one and does 10 damage while Adaeril hits for 13 damage. Only one of the Dretches is left alive. The remaining Dretch raises its arms to the sky, trying to gate in another Demon! It also attacks Galeria who takes 2 damage. Adaeril does 9 damage and we SLAY the demon. Combat is over.
Fandillas gets healed back by Randimir. It Looks like a fight took place here in the past or something similar happened to cause a disruption, there are huge deep scratch marks on the chairs and upholstery strewn around. Some shelves inside the room are broken but there is no blood or body parts on the ground.
We go to the west door and hear the ethereal sounds of hooves on stone, like a galloping. The sound does not fade after a few gallops, it continues.
Adaeril activates the Rod of Alertness in the ground from the Horses on the other side of the door just as something bursts through the door. As it passes through the door, it appears to be a Ghostly Centaur. The Spectre pours through the door like a liquid with eyes glowing white and its form smoking. The Centaur brings its blade down toward the party…it wants to kill us!
All of the Centaurs form appears as “ghostly metal” but it does appear to be undead. We determine that it is not a Ghost. The Centaur attacks the rear, which is Sarkas, who has AC -1.
It hits on a 14 and rolls a 16. The blade of the Ghostly Centaur passes through his body and deals 1 damage. It misses the second time it attacks and calls out a battle cry. Randimir stops casting but Adaeril's Rod is activated so we gain the Prayer spell.
Fandillas charges and Randimir must save vs magic. Sarkas attempts to turn as a Wraith and manages to turn it! The Centaur takes 6 damage from a Magic Missile spell while the scimitar wielded by Galeria does 9 damage.
It has AC 4. The Centaur takes 9 damage from Sarkas and starts to gallop through the door, it completely disappears as it goes through.
Combat is over.
Through the west door is a circular room that is mostly collapsed. Buried underneath the collapsed room is some wooden furniture and some skeletal figures - 6 of them that are all broken and split. Two-thirds of the skeletons are partially buried under rock. It looks like they were wearing armor as well. To the right, and built into the circular room on the north wall, is a door.
Grasping the Rod to use Detect Evil, Adaeril senses the faint trace of evil to the east. We head back into the room with Dretch corpses, which are turning to ash.
There is a thin 5' hallway going north, so we head north. Adaeril steps out and we can see the ruins in the back room and there is the Ghostly Centaur.
Adaeril ducks back into the 5' corridor. Just as he ducks back a ghostly arrow flies through and he is washed over by an icy feeling. A frosty energy freezes the area as a second one flies by a split second later. Adaeril casts Mirror Image. The spell goes off and he has 3 images.
One of the arrows is forced through towards Galeria and Sarkas. The ghost arrow hits Galeria who takes 6 damage. She must save versus death or lose a level! Sarkas also takes 1 damage and must also save vesus death. They do NOT lose a level.
Sarkas drives a spear into the Ghost Centaur and it turns into a mist. The Centaur disappears into nothing.
Galeria is healed for 7 damage and some stairs descend downward into the blackness toward the north west. Something sharp and sweet fills the air which feels as a humid forest. We go through the north door.
When we step through the door, we can smell brimstone. A Stinking Cloud forms all around us and it has two layers on top of us. The cloud encompasses Sarkas, Fandillas and Adaeril.
Darkness is cast and a scimitar is taken from Fandillas via Telekinesis. Meanwhile, we retreat out of the stinking cloud back into the main room and Sarkas gives Fandillas +1 longsword.
2 Dretches appear in melee with Randimir and Sarkas after teleporting into the area from somewhere unknown. Randimir is too fast and evades the attacks!
Sarkas takes 5 damage from one of the Dretches. On the next round, Randimir casts Sleep and Galeria attacks. The Sleep spell does not effect it and Galeria misses.
Adaeril and Sarkas are both attacked this time. A bite hits Adaeril for 5 damage and Sarkas takes 8 damage. Sarkas is actually not struck this time…but we all attempt to stab the Demons.
On the next round, Adaeril is not struck but this time Sarkas is hit for 2 damage. The Dretches failed to gate in another Demon, luckily. Sarkas is saved but not struck. Randimir is missed!
Sarkas is missed again while Galeria is hit for 9 damage. After this, both of the Dretches are destroyed!
Galeria is healed via Cure Light Wounds.
We go to open the door but our door open attempt fails at first, the next round, it works. Sarkas's holy symbol illuminates all.
To the left there is a great statue which we have identified as a Druidic aspect of the deity called Geos. He appears as a robed figure in the garb of a Druid but only the bottom 2/3 of it is still standing. The top third of the statue is mostly shattered. To the right is a larger room dominated by a shrine to Venha. It appears to be heavily defiled by Demonic claws and there are some Elven skeletons lying on the ground with prayer rugs that are blackened with ash and soot.
We retrieve the magic scimitar of Fandillas and we search the shrine.
Adaeril searches the shrine room but does not find anything else of note. Everything is obliterated, apparently ravaged by Demons, and the Elven skeletons are now blackened bones. Adaeril does not find anything in his search otherwise. After this, we start searching the shrine area for secret doors.
We spend 10 minutes searching for secret doors but nobody finds anything.
We decide to head back to the Wistari village…
Our travel back is uneventful and the session is ending on:
There is a trap inside the chest / coffer that we hauled back with us and it is found inside the lid of the chest. We open the coffer outside and a cloud of gas dissipates out, however we were careful to open it at a distance. Inside we find:
The party killed 4 Dretches and a Wraith Centaur.
A total of 1,555 xp value of the treasure.
Galeria gets 522 xp.
2889 xp for everyone else (including Adaeril).
Training to 5th level FIGHTER for Adaeril, he will be paying 6,000 gp for training.
We each get 1155 gp and 80 pp.
