Iona pays upkeep and is buying 2 vials of holy water.
Our group is headed back to Delbo once again.
We made it to Delbo and to the base of the tower unhindered. In recent days, we have noted that there is now a window visible on the tower. There are shards of glass where it was broken out from the inside but none of the other windows are yet visible from the outside. It is an imposing tower within the ruins of the city.
Iona scales the wall and secures the grappling hook. We can see the remnants of burned oil flasks and whatever remains of the dead Lemures. Both of the inside doors are closed and the place is empty except for the trapezoidal summoning circle on one side of the room.
Faeldar wants to determine the circle's purpose and decides to make a blood sacrifice so he cuts himself within the circle and attempts to summon a Troglodyte…but nothing happens.
Iona takes the blessing of Tenn to her 10' silver spear. It is now poisoned.
Iskandar examines the trapezoidal feature and can tell that the trapezoid is the thing to draw before summoning Demons or Devils. It was drawn in a once powerful substance that faded over time so that things trapped within could then leave. These are arcane circles in nature and are unrelated to a god. It is perhaps more related to the lower planes.
We push through the doorway and enter a circular part of the tower which has a square base. The cylinder of the tower rises up higher. In this room to the left is where the glass case is now shattered. Glass fragments lie around the from of the case and there are shelves near the west wall.
A white powder residue is collected by Fenric, the Assassin. However, he is unable to collect any. Wine feels an unexpected wooden box in the area. The box is attached to the wooden shelf. It feels like a snuff box drawer. Iona does not find anything to be concerned about but the box is haphazardly attached.
Brother Norris looks out the window to the east side of Delbo and sees only the remnants of the ruined city. Wine finds an iron key and returns to the invisible case in an unassuming corner of the wall, where Iona originally found it. Wine feels for a keyhole and finds two handles but there is not a single keyhole or crack, only a place where the two doors meet. The does of the invisible case do not budge at all.
Rhinock comes over to brute force the box, which actually feels more like a wall cabinet. It still does not budge for Iona or for Rhinock. After tying a rope around it, we pull and pull the yet the cabinet does not budge at all. We wonder, will our physical force effect the contents inside?
Knocking out reveals that it sounds like wood but holds fast, solid like stone.
We heave open the door to the circular tower and head into a dining area. We have a strange sensation as we enter and can see a cabinet, a table, and some silverware. There is also a fountain on the far wall. The walls are fairly thick here. The silverware and the cabinets are along the wall whereas the dining table and chairs are near the center of the room. Also near the center is a spiral staircase that ascends around a central pillar.
There are little slits in this room with light coming in from these small arrow slits. They are actually more like thin decorative windows. Brother Norris touches things on the table, looking for invisible items. As he stands there, the fountain begins to bubble and froth. Quickly, the fountain trickles from the wall, which is dominated by a large basin. The bubbling and frothing forms into mounds and gets higher and higher until it forms a column of water.
Brother Norris points out the frothing water and says “Of course it's fucking magical shit!” He then takes something from the cabinet and throws it at the fountain. Wine is still inspecting the cabinet while Iskandar is carefully observing the water.
There is silverware inside the cabinet along with some bowls, cups, spoons, and porcelain. It is evident that a few pieces are missing, Norris falls back and begins opening the cabinet.
Iona spikes the door with a spike.
Kana, the Druid, determines this is a foul water in the fountain. Fenric fires off a weapon into the space of the water and others start to throw items into the fountain. Fenric fires an arrow through the water harmlessly. The thrown porcelain collides with the column of water shape and it floats rapidly down to the frothing fountain. The column of water suddenly forms the eyes and face of a snake and extends out some tendrils that go all the way up to the ceiling.
Iona fires a crossbow bolt while Kana casts Shillelegh.
The Water Creature misses Rhinock but a Magic Missile and our arrows hit. Wine casts Bless as a tendril arches toward the Magic-User. Luckily, it MISSES Iskandar!
Some try to gather up pieces of the broken shelves and then the Bless spell goes off. The Water Creature is considered large but still, Iona misses.
Rhinock hits for 13 damage and the magic club of Kana hits for 4 damage. Rhinock only does some damage as the creature appears to not be effected however Kana's cudgel deals a significant blow. Brother Norris hits for 7 damage, dealing the final blow!
The Weird Water Creature splashes back into the fountain with a massive splash. The form goes back into the normal watery shape of the fountain although it continues to froth, it is reduced to bubbling water.
Iona pours holy water into the fountain and returns to spiking that door again.
Iskandar does 7 damage into the frothing water which causes the level of the water to lower below the edge of the fountain but it continues frothing. Fenric's poison is swallowed up by the water without any effect. Meanwhile, Brother Norris gets a torch from Wine.
We all run for the staircase and the door is also now spiked for some turns. The holes made in the fountain are corked shut by Wine while it is apparent that the creature is taking form beneath him. Brother Norris tries to scare it away which does not work. Now he needs to save versus paralysis, but fails! A water tendril wraps around him and he gets dragged inside.
Kana yells down the stairs to come back up here.
In the room beyond we did spot some statues of adventurers, one has a bow and a cloak while the other has a knife,
Everything we see is stone in the tower so far. Brother Norris and Wine are breaking away from our group as the water creature further attacks Brother Norris but he manages to escape AGAIN!
The other members of the party climb up the staircase, Iskandar and Fenric inspecting the statues and can see that even the figures' pores are pecked out in the statue. It looks like there were some glass beams that were added afterward. Maybe added as an after thought.
Rhinock begins looking at the double door across the room. There is a sharp gust of wind from this area that goes right past his left ear. It feels to him like a blade cutting through the sky and only Rhinock can hear the sound.
Iona approaches Rhinock with a spear out and at the same time there are 3 more gusts of wind that strike past Rhinock. He can smell something foul, like molten rock mixed with sludge. It feels like something is moving in the air all around him. Meanwhile, Iskandar climbs the staircase above.
Iskandar finds the end of the staircase and across the room is another staircase going up even further. The area has more arrow slits and an empty table on the right wall, light streams in through the walls and the staircase that goes up is adjacent to the wall.
In the previous room, we can see that the statues are supported by transparent glass rods. Wine breaks a rod with his mace while Iskandar goes back down the stairs. Iona starts splashing holy water on Rhinock, who is being attacked by…something.
Kana casts Faerie Fire which goes off before our melee attacks. Magical lights dance around a flying form that is 3' high. The lights move around haphazardly in the air around the unknown attacker. The Flying Creature is now revealed and it is 3' tall with long ears.
It looks like it is made of congealed slime with bent arms and legs. It hovers in the air by an unknown means. Its mouth is a gaping oval shape with sharp teeth while its eyes are black holes.
Iona does 2 points of damage to the creature with a thrown flask of holy water, which splashes.
Kek breaks the glass rods which may save at +2. The glass cracks but does not shatter. The flying Creature attacks Rhinock and all of them miss. Iona and Rhinock are now in melee with the creature.
There is a brief flash of movement at the top of the stairs as Iona continue splashing it with holy water. We still have Bless for this last round.
Rhinock is attacked again and a bite hits Rhinock. He must save versus poison. He makes the save but still takes 2 damage. Iona deals another 2 damage to the creature while Rhinock hits for 7 damage. it is considerably wounded. Fenric, Iona, and Rhinock are all now in melee.
A statue of a woman in a cloak falls to the ground as Kek shatters the glass. As it crashes into the ground, large chunks come off of it. Flittering down into the room come two dark forms with webbed wings and some Giant Spiders emerge!
Brother Norris tries to fight the Giant Spider while Iona makes a fighting withdrawal.
We all fail our save versus spells and there are two hits against Iona for 4 damage, She fails her save and loses 2 Dexterity points. Meanwhile, Fenric is able to evade the piercing mandible of the Giant Spider.
The Giant Spider has AC 2 and so does the Imp creature. Brother Norris is bit by the spider but he saves! Though, he does take 2 damage from the bite.
We are overcome by a sudden wave of terror as a massive urge to flee the way we came overtakes us. Kana is not fleeing but Wine is about to cast Command on the creature to die.
As Fenric flees he tries to atone with Tenn, his god. Command is cast on the flying creature. A 6 or more is required or an Intelligence of 13 or more for a saving throw. The Creature saves so it does not heed the command. Two of the claws hit Fenric who saves twice.
Iona, Rhinock and Fenric begin fleeing in fear down the stairs. While Fenric loses a point of DEX after taking a hit. The Flying Creature cackles in a bubbling throaty noise and then begins following the party. Brother Norris misses the Giant Spider.
The other Spiders attack Fenric but do not strike him.
In midair, the Creature transforms into a flying Imp! The Imp pursues us and the Spider is also turned into an Imp.
Wine charges the Spider with Brother Norris. Iskandar pulls out a wand and casts it at the spider using “BURST”. Meanwhile, Fenric asks for divine assistance.
The Spider attacks Brother Norris who manages to block the mandibles. At the bottom of the staircase, we are fleeing as fast as we can. At the fountain, the water begins frothing again as the door is opened. The party is headed toward the open door that Iona previously spiked open.
Fenric runs toward the broken glass and the poisonous powder and then moves to the spiked door. The flying Imp is pursuing us and presently, opens its maw as a stream of flame shoots out in our direction.
Iona collapses in the staircase while Fenric has been slain!
Rhinock made it to the trapezoidal room. Meanwhile, Brother Norris casts Command. The Spider fails its save! Also, the wand goes off and an amber streaked white light erupts in a cone over the commanded Spider and onto the back of brother Norris. There is a flash of light that dazzles the Spider but the flash of light also blinds Brother Norris.
Kana and Wine charging. Wine is hitting with regular mace but it has no effect on the Spider.
Iona loses 1 hp and is now at -1 hit points. Iona drops! Rhinock does not have to leap out the window so he begins to climb out.
We did not die after all because IMPS DO NOT BREATHE FIRE! Those of us who would have dropped are also fleeing with Rhinock.
Wine collapses on the ground as Iskandar runs down the stairs. Iona has the fastest speed and is climbing down. Two bodies are now on the rope. As we climb, the rope snaps and we fall! Iona takes 2 damage. Fenric is knocked unconscious.
The flying Imp is charging as the long tail attempts to sting Rhinock. Iskandar casts Magic Missile at the Imp while Iona is still fleeing.
The Imp is no longer blinded or commanded.
Rhinock leaps out the window with the rope while the Imp attacks at a +4. Its tail drives itself into Rhinock who must save versus poison or die. He must roll an 11 or higher…He Fails! Rhinock falls down to the earth as he takes 2 more damage. He lands next to Fenric and Iona as the Spider attempts to melee Kana.
Another Magic Missile is cast and deals 11 damage. Kana attacks and the blow deals 7 damage to the Spider. The Imp is obliterated! Iona is running across the city in terror, still under the fear effect.
Suddenly, the rope in the window is nowhere to be seen and the Giant Spider strikes at Kana but misses. Kana strikes back and its body fails dead!
Iona finally gains control of her body so she uses her hide and move silently to get back to our companions from across the ruined city. The Faerie Fire spell had ended and Iskandar can see Iona out the window.
Rhinock and Wine are dead to the poison and Brother Norris heals Fenric. We start taking bodies back to the cart though Fenric is still in a coma.
Iskandar casts Dispel Magic on the cabinet which banishes the invisibility on the wooden cabinet. Iskandar pulls it open and finds inside two rolled up scrolls. Kana and Iskandar look at the scrolls and they find arcane sigils on both. They leave out the tower and rejoin us.
After regrouping, the party heads back to Qarn with our fallen.
We get back to Qarn safely.
Iona takes Wine and Rhinock's body to the Clerics for revival.
The charge for a Raise Dead is 5,500 gp. This can be paid…a portion of that can be covered by an assurance of service. For Wine, it is only half this amount as he is a member of that clergy. He will pay 2,250 gp to be raised.
Rhinock has enough money currently so he is restored to life and his CON goes down to 15!
Wine does not want to be revived but he wants his money to go to the Temple of Nefer.
We begin to divide up Wine's possessions. He had found a Crystal Decanter which grants Invisibility. It is noted that 2 doses were used out of 33 doses. It is still unidentified but when the dust was thrown on something it caused it to become invisible.
The magic pearl could be a Pearl of Wisdom as it granted 1 point of Wisdom. Wine also had a pint of very good wine.
The blood chalk was collected by Iskandar but Iona sprinkles some on herself to see what it might do. Nothing happens.
We also find a Scroll of Stone to Flesh and a Magic-User Scroll with the following spells: Protection from Normal Missiles, Enchant an Item, Control Weather, 2x Dimension Door, Demand, Otto's Irresistible Dance, Astral Spell.
The party will be waiting two weeks for Heal spells and Raise Dead spells and what not.
Rhinock is raised. Faeldar joins us to replace Wine and we will head back to Delbo.
We make it back to the tower without issues along the way.
Iona climbs back in through the window.
As Iona comes into the window, she notices the tail end of something going into a door to the right, which then closes shut. Iona immediately slide back down the tower wall.
Rhinock begins climbing up the rope and Kana casts Barkskin on himself. As he is doing so, an invisible force attacks him. Barkskin goes off and Kana gets +1 to AC and +1 to all saves. All 3 blows miss him and he can detect the foul smell of a Demon.
Iskandar casts Levitate which lasts for 5 turns and Kana climbs up the rope. Rhinock has shield out and can feel the unseen force. Two of the invisible Imp's attacks hit and he must make 2 saves. He fails one and loses 1 point of DEX.
Iskandar levitates up the wall while Faeldar twiddles his thumbs. Iona climbs up the wall again.
None of the attacks hit Rhinock this time and Faerie Fire is cast once again. The Imp creature is now fully revealed. Rhinock and Kana are in melee. Meanwhile, Iskandar sees the same sight through the tower window.
Faeldar rubs his brooch, which is a Brooch of Shielding. Rhinock can now see the Imp and he attacks while Iona splashes it with holy water.
Kana is also attacked and takes 2 hits causing 3 damage. Iona does 2 damage with the splashed holy water. Iskandar hits for 8 damage and then Rhinock strikes for 9 damage. The final blow is dealt by Rhinock as the Imp is severed in two.
Faeldar spills blood on the arcane symbol but nothing happens. We make noise as we enter the tower and the we get to the door. We find ourself in the room with the fountain and see that the one cabinet is obliterated.
Kana casts Stone Shape to seal all the holes by the cabinet. This spell is successful and she seals up all 5 of the holes. Meanwhile, at the fountain, the water starts bubbling and frothing as it becomes enraged. The water is sucked downed below the fountain and continues draining out of the fountain. Some presence here is struggling for life.
Fenric casts Purify Water which has destroyed the evil power within the fountain.
Revealed within the fountain is an ancient skeleton wearing rusted armor. The skeleton possesses a potion vial and a net, the type that would be used for combat.
We take 10 minutes to search the fountain and the room but nothing else is found.
The party gathers up the items and heads back to Qarn.
We are back in Qarn.
A Magic Missile is cast at Faeldar but his magic brooch slurps up the Magic Missile, Faeldar is completely unharmed but his brooch would take 5 damage!
We test out the net but find that the net does not do anything.
Kana tastes the potion and then claims the potion. Kana can breathe water as though it were air using this potion!
Iskandar keeps the arcane scrolls.
Iona goes into the water of Lake Qarn and tosses the net toward herself. It darts forward and wraps around her. The Monk is wrapped in the net but Iona tumbles out of the net with a flick.
We get 106 gp each.
