Training started on the 7th of Seed Moon for Xrith and others. We spent a week to 9 days back in camp and will need to check for encounters. During this time we met up with Sir Anders in Ornholm and Eomiaje the Hidden One. We will set out for a day and a half to get to Jacob's encampment.
The weather is clear. Selethade will lead Eomiaje's Horse. Selethade has the Rod of Alertness.
Selethade and Kheskhor are now invisible. Selethade and Kheskhor are also in Ornholm and will be returning with us to the encampment.
Travel is uneventful and in the evening the weather is clear.
In the evening, there is an encounter.
Jacob is not awake but we are not surprised due to the Rod of Alertness.
There is a winged creature in the shape of a dragon flying overhead, about 19“ away.
Briiz rolled a terrible Reaction roll. The Men-at-arms raise their weapons. Everyone is awoken and we spot the thing in the sky…it is flying off to the left at a 90 degree angle. It is moving 24”. It is heading north.
It did look like a dragon, we could only see the silhouette and not the color. It did seem to sparkle a bit in the moonlight.
Uuto keeps his heavy crossbow of distance loaded and ready. He gets 2 attacks per round on a surprise round and add his Monk damage bonus to it.
It is spring time in Al'shiel, the continent upon which we reside. Home of the Gorsin.
We are starting in the lower left hex of the north east region.
The Hippogriff Riders are not surprised.
They spot at a distance of 34“ from the front of the party a single Wild Boar with its butt in the air.
They are 34” away.
After the first segment, we notice they are diving at something. We could not see the Boar.
The Boar has AC 7 and Jacob hits with boths shots. He does 5 and 4 damage. The Boar stumbles and continues running away, griveously wounded. Jacob will finish it off.
One turn passes and Uuto drags it back to camp.
We are now on hour 3.
The Hippogriff Riders are not surprised this time either.
Something is surprised at a distance of 23“ from the ground party.
The Ogres are surprised for 1 segment. There are 12 Ogres.
The Ground Party is also not surprised. We can act…there are 12 of them. This area does have some water in it and the Sea of Grass is only 7' in this area. The tallest Ogres are 10', 2/10 of them are visible. They have concealment so the Ground Party will have a -3 to attack.
They must hit AC 2 at 23” distance. Uuto misses.
Jacob does not want to scare them off, he says.
The Ogres notice the Hippogriff Riders above and notice the large party. The Dragon Illusion is called up from the Grasses with a Roar!
The Ogres have a moment of Confusion and 1/3 begins moving toward the party. Eomiaje calls up the image of the Dragon from the grass and this stops them in their tracks. The Ogres that advanced and the ones that stayed have not advanced and are watching the Dragon fly around the sky.
The Dragon is big for Eomiaje.
They pass their morale and will charge the party.
The back and the rear Ogres are watching the Dragon intently and consider it a real threat. The Ogres are 21.2“ away.
The Ogres charged forward 12“ and they get 6” closer during the segment, moving them to 15.2“. The Front line is 8” away. Jacob orders the party to stop.
3 segments of movement and then Jacob stops immediately, telling everyone. The Ogres are unarmed and the melee is met.
Stevie's Javelin hits for 2 damage. Omaz pops out of the grass and stabs for 3 Damage. Jacob does 14 damage and Josalyn hits for 10 damage. None of the Ogres are slain so they all get their attacks.
4 attacks on Stevie, 4 on Jacob, 2 on Omaz, Josalyn has 2. There is one amongst them that bears brighter metals. Omaz is the target of the Leader.
All of the Ogres attack Stevie's Horse first. It has AC 6. It is hit for 6 damage, 4 damage, for a total of 10 damage. This kills her horse and she is knocked on the ground after failing her save versus paralysis.
Jacob is hit on an 18, all three attacks on Jacob miss. Two attacks on Josalyn miss. Omaz has AC -3/2 versus Ogres. The Leader hits Omaz for 3 damage.
Jacob's second attack hits for 15 damage, which kills one. They will take a -1 to hit and on their AC due to the Dragon.
Kheskhor is casting which breaks his invisibility. The Dragon starts coming down with a new purpose as Uuto takes a shot. Uuto hits. The Leader has AC 3/4 and everyone gets a +1 due to the Dragon. Uuto hits for 6.5, Omaz hits for on the Leader, Josalyn hits for 8. Stevie hits for 11 damage.
No additional Ogres have been slain. The Ogre must save versus Dragon Breath for 15 damage. It appears as though the Ogre's flesh melts off and it falls to the ground.
The Sleep spell finishes with a 50% chance, the Ogre resists the spell.
The Leader misses Omaz. 4 of them going after Stevie, all miss except one that hits for 5 damage. 3 attacks on Jacob, none hit. One attack on Joslayn misses and Jacob is missed again.
Jacob hits for 11, Omaz hits for 4, Stevie hits for 15 and Uuto is reloading. Josalyn does 8 damage.
Omaz is missed! The 8 others attack, one hits Omaz for 5 damage. Jacob is missed and there are 2 on Stevie, she is missed and so is Josalyn. Jacob hits for 18 damage, it is still alive! The Ogre takes another 15 damage and it fries him!
Two Ogres are fried and there is a Morale Check this next round.
Morale base is 11 and they Immediately Surrender. Eomiaje lands the Dragon nearby and eyes one of them hungrily.
We take their stuff and then tie them up…Later, we execute them.
It is still hour 4.
For the Ground Party only, we are not surprised as we pass through a thick forest.
They find at its peak of the hill, two creatures with the heads of Rams and wings of Great Eagles. They are 10” away.
Uuto can fire but holds back while Stevie talks. Stevie says “Hail, we are the representatives of Jacob Goldleaf and we come in peace.”
The two winged creatures look at Stevie through the trees. They do not say anything for a couple of paces. Out from its mouth come a weird mixture of droning and teeth gnashing. None of us can speak what they just said.
Stevie asks Jacob what to do and he tells her to make hand signals like they should leave the area. The two creatures watch intentently and say nothing. One releases some more words and with its paw, makes an indication that she is in debt to us.
We got tied initiative. The creatures are taking off from the rock and are flying toward us through the trees.
Uuto misses, they have AC 0. They disappear below the treetops and then reappear 7” away from us, heading toward us. We can see them through the leaves here and there.
Josalyn's Prayer spell goes off and we get +1 to attacks and saves, they have a -1 against us.
The round concludes that they are directly overhead, through the trees. We do not have a clear visual of them.
The Criosphinxes dive at us from a height of 4“. They cover that in a single segment. They will go after whoever is least armored. Uuto is being attacked but must hit AC 1. He attacks with a Halberd and misses. They automatically hit Uuto doing 16 damage. UUTO IS DEAD!
Kheskhor is AC 1 and is hit on a 7. Both hit…actually Sir Anders gets an attacks first but misses. Kheskhor takes 6 damage and 10 damage. Kheskhor is at -2 hp.
Eomiaje is not in melee but Sir Anders and Kheskhor are.
We won initiative. Omaz attacks and hits AC 0 and they are considered Large. 7.5' tall. Omaz does 4 damage.
The Sphinx counter attacks Omaz, he is at AC 2/2. All 3 attacks hit Omaz. They hit for 5, 5 and 9 damage. He takes 19 damage and is at 10 hp.
Jacob must hit AC 0 and hits for 11 damage. Josalyn hits for 7 and 10 damage. Deep wounds are taken by the creature.
Selethade moved away. It attacks Jacob. Jacob is hit on an 11 and he takes 11 damage! Jacob hits for 19 damage with a second attack. It is gravely wounded but does not fall. It thrashes its wings. Eomiaje flies down and touches and it must save versus Confusion. It resists.
The Criosphinx attacks Omaz who has AC 1, all three miss! Boths claws and bite misses Jacob.
Sir Anders misses with his spear. Stevie waits for Faerie Fire before attacking. Jacob hits for 15 and Josalyn hits for 9 damage.
Faerie Fire goes off. Omaz misses but Stevie hits for 6 damage.
The Criosphinx continues its attacks.
Eomiaje hits for 2 damage, plink! Stevie does 14 damage.
The Criosphinx fights on in total fury!
It goes after Omaz, he takes 6 damage and 8 damage from a claw and a bite. OMAZ IS KILLED!
Eomiaje shoots Stevie and hits for 3 damage.
Jacob attacks and kills the thing for 19 damage! The Criosphinx is dead.
There was no lair found nearby as we discuss what to do with Omaz. Stevie is going to take the fallen, Uuto and Omaz, to Ornholm.
Eomiaje is still with Jacob at the fortress.
In Ornholm on Seed Moon the 17th, Stevie takes them to the Temple to be raised.
Omaz needs to add 3,000 gp to his debt for being raised. Uuto is raised on the 17th and gets 500 xp. Omaz and Uuto each lose 1 CON and Omaz gains 1,000 xp.
They can return on the 20th.
Back at the fortress, they are working on the moat but the ditches are already dug.
There are no encounters up to the 17th.
The party has not returned and the weather remains clear. Patrols across the domain and nothing is encountered.
There is heavy rain in the evening.
Stevie and the others make it to Eliope today. In the encampment, we must make a surprise roll.
There is an encounter.
We are not surprised.
We see some shapes in the air flying overhead…there are 3 huge winged creatures, about 20' long. These are Giant Owls.
The Owls are overhead at a fair distance and do not change their course, outside of bow range. They are 26” up.
Eomiaje talks to them and is greeted warmly.
The Owls hoot and fly and say they will return to their roost after helping some travelers.
Eomiaje returns to the fortress of Jacob.
Jacob is flooding the Moat with a Decanter of Endless Water.
The rest of the party arrives on midday.
We have 5 hours left and the domain clearing continues.
We are not surprised but a herd of Deer and Stags are surprised.
We leave them alone.
The Riders are Surprised.
Coming through the Sea of Grass is a force of Orcs. They number about 200+ in number. They are surprised!
Half of the Orcs have polearms and 7' spears. The polearms are Halberds.
We are all leaving except for Jacob and Josalyn scout from high level. The Orcs are departing.
Uuto is healed for 6 hp and we have all returned to camp.
The Riders are not surprised.
There is another group of Stags and Deer up ahead, gathered in the middle of a clearing. Eomiaje flies up ahead to talk to the Deer.
First thing he notices when he flies up, he sees a group of 70 Deer and 10 Stags. They are gathered around a small Stone. like a small Obelisk. The bottom half is drenched in blood and filth. The Deer are gathered in the clearing around it, standing amidst many corpses. Strewn across the ground are Orcs…they have the same banners as the ones we saw moments ago. Some of the Deer and Stags investigate the bodies. There are no living Orcs here.
Eomiaje talks to the Stag and respond to him neutrally. They saw some Orcs around here, they were fighting the other Orcs. They were waiting for the Orcs to move to get the Clovers around the stone. They ruined most of the clovers around the stones. All of them have been totally ruined.
They tell us not to stand on the Clovers.
There are some runes that were marked in runes, possibly Orcish.
Anders detects a foul evil from the runes. Eomiaje can detect Chaos and Evil coming from the stone.
The Deer tell us that as long as the ones that dont have too many legs don't crush the clovers.
Eomiaje casts Dispel Magic on the stone. Anders only detects a latent evil on the stone.
Anders goes to destroy the Obelisk. Using the Rod of Flailing. We did not anger GRACK!
