We are continuing where we left off, the Temple Fissure Treasure Map.
We climb down the pit and are next to the door. Walker has his bow out. Yohan and Xrith both listen at the door.
Yohan hears a pair of deep groans, feeling the vibrations through the doors. Additionally, some kind of liquid.
When I look around the corner, we can detect moisture and the passage goes another 60' before it turns to the right.
Everything is quiet. We proceed forward and the passage turns right. The moisture has increased. We all listen again and can hear distant rhythmic dripping, it gets slower over the minute.
Lyo casts Find Traps and Walker uses Detect Evil with the Rod of Alertness.
No evil is detected and no traps are detected. Around the corner, it bends for 10' then goes to a 60' hall. There is a toppled statue 8' wide and 10' tall, depicting a Gnome with a rod. It has been like this for some centuries and the Gnome's head has broken off to the base of a wooden door. The base of the statue is square and the passage continues across the way from this room.
The transition of the stone goes to a bluish stone leading downward. It does not look like Vermic stone, with a similair texture to basalt. Xrith looks behind us and no magic is detected.
We look down the stairs with Find Traps going, when Lyo approaches the stairs, there are no walls on either side. The stairs are like an elevated walkway. He can see that the dark stairs are flooded at the bottom two steps. The bottom cavern room is flooded. The chamber beyond is flooded. With the light from around the corner reveals large ripples all over as though big ripples…something moving.
The stairs descend 15'. Xrith checks the wooden door, the arch is made of metal and there is writing in Gnomish that he can read.
The Runes are Clerical blessings. These are the sorts of things placed over a place where something good or happy happened, to consecrate it. They are somewhat playful and informal one might even see them on a shrine in a home.
These runes are tied to Zo.
Xrith picks the lock while Whirlrender searches for secret doors. We need to get one of the ear cones but we listen and hear nothing.
Opening the door reveals a 30' corridor going to a lounge chamber. There is a basin with a silver bowl in the back. We see furniture in good condition, just old. We enter the room and the Cleric senses a trap on the third drawer of a chest of drawers, it has a magical trap inside. There is a 10% chance to detect it. He detects the school, Alteration. It is the area withing 2' diameter. We do not see any exits but there are Gnomish sigils above the baseboard and we see inside the basin, the silver bowl glittering and dry in the stone font.
The bowl has markings of Zo on it as if to create holy water. The silver bowl will lift up but it is 550 coins. We use detect magic on the bowl from the Rod of Alertness. There is a weaker magic on the bowl and a weak magic on the trap. It is smaller than the volume of the drawer.
Thieves are not able to disable all magic traps, like one on a box that a Thief cant access.
We search thoroughly after the Find Traps expires. We spend one turn to rest.
The furniture looks normal. There is nothing suspicious about the chest as Xrith examines it. We could tie a rope around the drawer. Xrith opens the drawer with the others from the other room.
Inside the drawer is a light colored box about the size of the Find Traps.
There is only dust in the three drawers. The box looks clean to Irayas when he checks it for traps.
Walker takes his bastard sword and it moves normally. He picks it up under his arm. As he does so, several small objects roll in the box when he picks it up. Irayas did not find any traps either.
We head back up topside and Walker will put the box in his saddlebags. We get there after 3 turns and then rest.
We have 2 hours left before night and when we need to rest. We head back and find a bunch of nests and broken spears from those humanoid creatures.
We head back to the camp and rest for the night.
We return to the room with the Gnome statue and find remnants of moisture around as if something was looking around. The door opens but it is still present into the room, the furniture is moved around haphazardly, pushed back toward the wall.
Xrith and Lucien move forward invisibly.
We see two pairs of eyes sticking up from the water. The creatures looked like a huge lizard, like a massive croc.
The room was pretty big and there was an area where we could walk, some dry land that was not underwater.
The two heads rise out of the water, two heavy splashes are heard.
We react to the splashing as something moves in. Everyone is ready. Risten goes Invisible.
On segment 6 we see the first of the heads, it is a HYDRA! Actually two!
The group sees a second Hydra behind it. Xrith pops out to counter attack and MISSES!
Yohan hits for 10 damage, killing one of its heads. Irayas misses also. The first Hydra lost a head, the other 5 heads are attacking Yohan or Walker. That is all on Walker. Walker has AC 3/3. Two hits for 3 damage.
The other head goes for Yohan. It hits for 2 damage.
The second Hydra moves into melee against Yohan Walker and Xrith. 2 attacks each. Yohan is hit for 2 damage. His Phantom Armor is removed after absorbing 4 hp.
2 attacks on Walker who takes 5 and 2 damage, Phantom Armor is gone. 2 attacks on Xrith who has Ac 2/3. Xrith is missed!
Light is going off on a creature. One of the heads is blinded on the unwounded Hydra.
We win initiative again.
It is 4 rounds to cast Light. AC 5 against the head and a +4 against the blinded head. Omaz hits a head for 6 damage.
There is one Hydra with two head and one Hydra that has a blind head. Spook goes off and the Hydra saves!
Walker and Lyo are being attacked and Walker takes 3 damage. Lyo takes 5 damage dispelling his Phantom Armor. The other Hydra attacks Walker who takes 2 damage. Xrith is hit for 4 damage. Phantom Armor is now gone. Lyo is missed. Xrith takes 4 damage from another head and Walker is missed again.
Charm Monster goes off and the Hydra resists the Charm. Light spell is also resisted.
A morale check will be needed for the next round.
Morale check is rolled and they fail by 48. The two Hydras try to flee back to the abyss. Xrith destroys one of the heads as it flees. Yohan did 11 and Lyo destroyed a head. Omaz slices the final head off the first Hydra.
Magic Missile goes off 7 and 9, destroying 2 heads. Sling bullet is fired and hits for 6 damage. The only head left is glowing. Mirella charges and gets a +6 against the final head, doing 4 damage.
It will snap back at Mirella and misses. Mirella is 1 vs 1 against the Hydra.
The Hydra is eviscerated and falls into the water, only a few feet deep! It is dark and murky.
The water down here is stagnant and smells old. We can see farther into the cave. Mirella is cured for 4 and 8. She is almost full on hp.
Yohan puts a Hydra head in the bag of holding.
Xrith and Lucien are now invisible. At the south part of the passage is 3' of air at the top of the tunnel and 12' of space on the west.
Whirlrender can be used to detect treasure. We put all our coins in the bag of holding. Yohan senses silver in the direction of the east and gems to the south west. Omaz studies the cavern and believes that the water is deeper in the south. Based on the constructions might be a pit in the east. There is a slope descending at a good angle.
Mirella casts Find Traps.
We go around the corner along the north west side.
We find more water around the curve. The passageway is flooded and the tunnel goes deeper. It gets deeper at the tunnel goes on. The ceiling goes up higher.
Omaz can swim in the plate armor that he is borrowing from Thorgard. Omaz wears Xrith's Continual Light ring as we dive in. Xrith and Irayas remove all of their objects for the most part. We search the bottom of the pool and find a bunch of silt. After searching in the south, we dont find anything.
We head down the 12' passage and the water is only 3' deep. Up ahead we can see a 4' wide opening in the wall with small steps going upward. that opens to a wider open area. The 3' depth continues south. Xrith and others retrieve their items from the Bag of Holding and we all go as a party to explore further.
Whirlrender is used to detect gems and they go south. Yohan lends Whirlrender to Xrith and we go south down toward the 6' depth.
We climb up some stairs and get to an empty landing. There is a human skeleton wearing boots, cloak, leather armor, a silver clasp. Irayas uses the detect magic ability on the skeleton. The clasp on closer inspection is made of high quality silver with a sigil on it. It depicts a sword emerging from grapevines.
We also see two pouches on the Thief's belt alongside 3 clays flasks and an empty glass vial. A shortsword that is rusted and 3 daggers fastened to the pant leg.
We check to see if the items are magic. There is strong magic on the leather armor. No other items are magic.
The party heads up the stairs going north and up.
We are not surprised.
We are in a 5' marching order ascending the stairs. There are stretches of flatness. We can see the passage just keeps going up. We spot the top of the head of a large Annaconda! Its eyes fixed on us.
Walker, Lucien and Irayas must hit AC 4. This creature is large, Walker hits for 3 and Irayas for 4 damage.
The snake is wounded but not slain. It is descending down the stairs, not charging. The Snake is at the feet of the front line. The snake is in front of Yohan only!
Yohan and the Snake attack, Yohan hits for 8 damage. Whirlrender is a broadsword that does 1d6+1 damage. Yohan is missed and there are two fangs.
Magic Missile destroys the Snake!
Xrith and Irayas move into the room and then whistles down for the rest of the group.
Yohan disappears down into the pit, he takes 5 damage and the walls start moving. It cuts into a slanting chute that goes to the west.
Lucien climbs down the rope, he doesnt take any damage and then goes down the chute.
Omaz climbs down and then slides down into a large cavern. Yohan is positioned as a warrior against the darkness. Omaz takes 6 points of damage. Walker takes 14 damage and Lucien takes 10 damage from falling.
Omaz lands dextrously on his feet. The other two land down hard. They are standing together. They have light from continual light.
The globe is expanded to the full illumination of the chamber. The cave goes back a distance and a huge boulder potrudes from the water, 15' high and dry up top.
There is an 8 headed Hydra colored sky blue and blood red, swirling together on the same body. It is a mixture of color. A Pyro-Cryo-Hydralisk!
The Hydra stops 2“ from the party. Irayas is sprinting back to his warhorse. Irayas retrieves his rope from his warhorse and grabs a bunch of iron spikes.
The Chromatic Orb is cast and must hits AC 5. It does 5 damage and must save or be blinded. The Hydra is not blinded.
All 8 heads will breathe.
They must makes 4 saves against Fire and 4 saves and Frost breath. They take 8 damage if they fail their save and 4 damage if they pass. Yohan drops to -2. Walker is dead. Omaz is dead. Lucien is dead.
At the end of the round Irayas arrives with spikes and rope. We hear a terrible crunch from the pit. Irayas will climb down and ties enough rope. Irayas climbs down. Irayas sees his allies on the ground. It has a 10% chance to sense Irayas.
All 8 of the heads of the Hydra are fighting over the bodies.
Irayas uses DIVINE INTERVENTION to BLAST THE HYDRA AND IT WORKS!! The sound of crunching and breaking of things has stopped.
At the bottom of the chamber are our allies. Irayas climbs down and tries to check on the allies. All 3 are unwounded and also sleeping.
Everyone is restored to their health state before they fell. Walker attacks the Hydra as the 8 heads. Xrith starts climbing down.
The HYDRA IS DEAD as Walker runs his blade through it!
We climb down and we come down the hole. We go down about 10' and see a dull, small object on the top of the rock.
Xrith walks over to the boulder. The others see a smooth intentional pit going down 60' The ground is earthen dirt and many objects are arrayed in the dirt, gems and crystals. Possibly statues and other objects arranged in an intentional manner, like a druidic circle. It looks like a pupil or an iris. It looks like an eyeball looking straight up. The glass is flush with the stone.
Xrith climbs to the top of the boulder. It is wearing adventuring gear. The platemail has entirely corroded. There is a tube or scroll case made of crocodile.
Detect Magic has a weak magic from through the glass. Weaker class coming from the crocodile tube.
The glass is half a foot thick. There are no cuts into it. There is a ringing noise when Irayas tries to shatter it. Small crystal pieces come off as Omaz knows what this is. Gnomish glass that is used by Gnomes for rituals.
The group is rejoined outside. It is not midday yet and we have 5 movement points when we get back to the surface.
We sleep for the night and will take Xrith's boat as he flies above.
Xrith is surprised but we quickly avoid 9 Large Spiders. We can't avoid the encounter as we are ALL surprised!
The spot 9 Spiders coming over the hills, 16” away. A roving band of Spiders.
We try to avoid and win initiative, we manage to flee. The Spiders are pursuing us…
However, we have an 60% chance to evade. The Spiders trap us in the hills!
But, we try to evade again.
We manage to get away.
We make it to the hills and set up camp. The weather is clear.
It is cloudy on the morning.
We head south to the rolling hills, past Dead Man's Stone. There is an encounter in the second half of the day.
It is 1 hex north of Dead Man's Stone.
Xrith is not surprised.
From the air, our party can see 2/3rds of a mile away. 50 Humanoids, armored lightly moving toward our party.
We try to run away but they have seen our Hippogriff and do not pursue.
The weather begins to rain heavily in the evening.
During the night, there is No Encounter.
It is lightly raining and we can make it to Starling.
We make it back!
Time is advanced to a future date to pay back the time.
Irayas owes 300 gp.
We ignore the trapped box.
Lyo claims the +2 Studded Leather.
Protection from Possession scroll is sold for 10,000 gp
Silver Basin goes to Xrith (2000 gp).
3374 gp for xp each.
