Old Moon the 21st, 498

The plan is to go explore the ruined fortress.

The party is in Mombafra and it is lightly raining. Missiles, visibility and invisibility are effected.

We make it to Farius and it starts heavily raining.


Old Moon the 22nd, 498

It is heavy rain in the morning. Travel to Qarn is uneventful. In the evening the weather has cleared up.


Old Moon the 23rd, 498

We are headed to Gren.


Old Moon the 24th, 498

The weather is clear on the morning. We are headed to Ornholm. Travel is uneventful.


Old Moon the 25th, 498

The weather is clear in Ornholm. Natasha wears her armor on odd nights. We are headed to Maelc. We are headed through the plains. We arrive in Maelc and the weather is still clear.


Old Moon the 26th, 498

Weather is clear in Maelc. We begin exploring more of the Sea of Grass. The first hex is more Sea of Grass.

The next hex is a swamp hex. The next hex is more sea of grass as is the one after. There are no settlements. We head south and find more sea of grass. Northwest is more sea of grass. Even at this distance we can see the mountains to the north. There is snow upon the mountains. This is a warm and temperate region.

Briiz is wearing his leather jacket. Phantom Armor is cast upon Skalf.


Old Moon the 27th, 498

The weather is still clear and we find more Sea of Grass south west of us. The next hex is plains that does not have much vegetation though there is some snow, it is slushy. The area is wide open. The ground party and riders can spot a small object sticking out of the field. We can see it from 1/2 mile away, it appears to be stone, like a grave marker perhaps. It is made of dark basalt. The air is snowy and wintery.

We get close enough to see an obelisk / grave stone with runes carved on all 4 sides, fairly big sized. There are 6 on every side. Maervahr cannot read them? Actually…

Skalf looks around on the ground and he can tell that the earth is quite level in a 15' radius around the stone, more level than outside the radius. He starts digging around with his crowbar. Deru can recognize it and realizes it is Druidic in nature. He puts away his crowbar before he could do anything, after being stopped by the Druid. The runes are symbolic and not readable. Possibly pre severing.

We leave and head north. The next hex is more sea of grass.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised (6).

At 1.5 miles, the riders spot a structure. A shack or cottage that consists of a first floor and partially a second floor. There is visible smoke coming from a chimney. There are no fields around it. The area is overgrown with wintery foliage.

We go check it out. It is 50' x 40' on the base and has an upper level. There is a door on one side and one on the upper level, with railing. The railings appear to be broken and splintery. That is what we can see of the structure. We get to 8“ away when the upper door opens and a tall dark humanoid figure, 7' tall wreathed in shadow from the roof with a large, heavy crossbow.

  • Skalf takes cover.
  • Thorgard hails him.
  • Tatrin waits with Lok Vurn.
  • Natasha hides in shadows.
  • Kieri braces.
  • Koriss hides in the undergrowth, dropping prone.
  • Jacob and Josalyn stand with Thorgard.
  • Briiz tries to hail him.
  • Deru drops prone.

The 3 of us hail them. The figure shifts in the doorway. The figure has the huge head of a boar with a large sword on his back. He then shouts out for identification and purpose and he will defend it. Briiz introduces our group as the Thighs of Adventure. There is a pause as he waits but we see his lips move that are too low to hear. He shouts back across the snow that he has heard of us before. He tells us that if we are getting ready to rob us, we better get started.

Briiz says we have no desire to rob us. His name is Krato. We detect the scent of hazelnuts in the air.

We continue to the north west where we find more sea of grass. To the south is also sea of grass, more sea of grass and then…


ROLL SURPRISE

We fly into an open plain and see a small pond, about 1/2 mile wide. There is a small stream coming from the east (toward the obelisk). On the far side of the pond is a Hamlet. There is smoke rising from the houses that are made of clay bricks. It is not a far distance to the hamlet, it is large with about 400 people!

NO COMBAT


We enter the Hamlet. We are welcomed and it is called VELTHRIGG, a Hamlet of 400 around the pond. Around the buildings, which are built next to the pond, is surrounded by a long impressive wall that wraps around the circumference of the pond. There are several towers, like the ones on the Mombafran walls, with 2 people per tower. We are asked to identify ourselves. The Hamlet has two taverns, one doubles as an Inn. There is a House of Shrines by a Cleric 3 and Cleric 5, of Mote and Louz respectively. They sell healing potions and 1st level scrolls here. There is a regular store and blacksmith. They have no sages or alchemists here. It does seem well defended.

Maervahr asks about Krato. They have not caused trouble for Velthrigg but think it is theirs. They have been there for 4 months but after the first 6 weeks there was a big storm over the plain to the east by the monument. It lasted for days and when the Velthrigg people went out, some of the people from Velthrigg's house were messing with the Obelisk. They started hitting the monument until one of them was hit by lightning and turned to dust.

The Hut was an inn of sorts and the Silk Caravan changed and it was no longer profitable to maintain, thus Krato and his people moved.

The party is staying at the Inn in Velthrigg and the Hippgriff riders will ride out to the north west. They find only more sea of grass.


Old Moon the 28th, 498

The day in Velthrigg goes by without incident. The weather is still clear, the final day of Old Moon.

We find more sea of grass to the south west. Two north of Velthrigg that we can see and one northwest is sea of grass and north of that is another mountain. There are mountains northwest so we cut south west where we find more sea of grass and to the north west with mountains to the north.

We head south to the fortress in the far west of the Sea of Grass.


We enter the structure. There is a small walled castle with a keep, in terrible shape. There are large birds nests hanging from ruined towers. This looks like a regular castle, quite old.

These nests are normal bird nests. The Keep is freestanding. Part of the gate lies on the ground, damaged by a siege. The place looks complete abandoned but we have not seen any dungeon entrance. The Keep is missing a roof. Skalf does not detect any substructure. This structure appears to be Pre Severing in age. This occurred in the second month of year 0, probably 500 years old.

We will enter the structure. Maervahr casts Strength and Invisibility on Koriss.


We move through the ruined structure and find no valuables or dungeon entrance.

We will camp here for the night as our divination proved that there is no treasure or anything to be found here. Skalf investigates the tower and does not find anything stable. The rocks might slide down but it does not look like it will fall over.

Each of the towers once went up 50' but only one still has that height. There are some doors missing from the tower base, we looked around and did not find anything. The stairs go up in the tower.

Koriss and Maervahr will search around with Skalf and then we will make camp. We vote on where to go. We find nothing else.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised (5).

We see at a distance of 15”, we see moving with purpose, 7 figures that are 10' tall. They are lanky, moving rapidly, staying low to the brush. They move as fast as a man.

  • Jacob move to the wall
  • Josalyn too
  • Briiz shoots.
  • Thorgard moves with Jacob and Josalyn.
  • Maervahr casts Fly.
  • Koriss hides somewhere.

Fly takes 3 segments. They will cover 1.6“ per segment. Maervahr's spell goes off. He ascends for 5 segments. He goes up 60'. Maervahr goes psionically invisible to them.

Briiz hits one for 4 damage with the bolt that has continual light on it. He hit AC 5. It barely slows down. There are 7 Trolls, about to make Melee with Thorgard, Jacob and Josalyn.

One of the Trolls goes down to Jacob and Thorgard, one Troll hits Thorgard for Stoneskin. The other hits Josalyn's Stoneskin.

Jacob hits for another 17 and Thorgard hits for 7. They destroy one.

Briiz shoots at Josalyn but misses.

  • Thorgard attacks.
  • Lok-Vurn and Tatrin light torches
  • Natasha is wearing her armor. She tries to hide in shadows or move silently.
  • Kirei will move to engage.
  • Maervahr casts Hold Monster.
  • Koriss is moving to get behind the trolls.
  • Jacob and Josalyn attack.
  • Briiz fires.
  • Deru fixes a torch.
  • Skalf moves silently.

We lose initiative (6).

Briiz shoots first and fires at an enemy, AC 4 but misses. Two trolls are attacking Thorgard, Josalyn or Jacob. Thorgard and Jacob are attacked. Nothing hits Thorgard and Jacob is hit by the claw and the bite but Stoneskin.

Maervahr can see everything and can see them coming around the wall. They will reach the melee at the end of this round. Hold Monster lasts for 9 rounds but it will resolve next round on segment 1. They will be able to engage next round.

Skalf and Natasha both miss. Maervahr freezes one Troll entirely but two are just slowed.

There are 3 torches lit.

Koriss does 22 damage with a backstab using Cataclyzer, slicing its head off! Thorgard hit for 15, Josalyn hit for 6 and 9.

The other henchmen move toward the dead trolls.

  • Natasha is attacking.
  • Maervahr goes psionically invisible
  • Josalyn attacks the ones on the ground.
  • Koriss moves to the rear group, moving silently.
  • Deru casts entangle.
  • Skalf tries to disengage.
  • Thorgard is charging in before they attack.

Briiz shoots first and Entangle is 3 segments. Briiz misses. Thorgard hits one of the slowed ones for 8 damage. Natasha is slowed, Skalf is held, Thorgard is slowed. The three trolls must save against, they stack with entangle! Two slowed ones are even more slowed! Thorgard is actually not mechanically slowed, so does not take a -4 to his AC, just moving at 50% movement speed. Those who failed are held however.

The two slowed creatures can attack. Trolls can attack Thorgard and Natasha. One on each. Natasha attacks first against AC 4, but she misses. She has AC 3/3. Natasha actually does hit for 8 damage. All 3 attacks hit Natasha but she has Stoneskin…no more. Thorgard has AC -6, he is hit and takes 6 damage and 6, total 12.

Jacob has engaged, Lok-Vurn starts tieing them up.

Natasha is disengaging. Koriss does 28 damage to the held one along with Kirei, destroying it. Jacob destroys one.

All 7 of the Trolls are down!

COMBAT ENDS


We are making sure the Trolls are wounded. Maervahr will cast Polymorph Other after Josalyn collects Blood. He will transform one into a green snail. We will turn the others into snails as well.


Storm Moon the 1st, 498

We will polymorph 4 more today. Maervahr casts Invisibility on Koriss.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised.

Jacob is asleep. 11” is the encounter distance.

We hear a sudden unceremonious crunching of bushes and see some kind of small weasel bolting across our camp. It lands on top of Tatrin, when it bounces off his face. Before anyone can see it, we instinctively look and see 13 tall shapes in the dark, about 9' tall. They are bulkier.

  • Josalyn moves between Jacob and the figures.
  • Briiz wakes Jacob up and puts his Jacob on.
  • Thorgard wakes people up and engages.
  • Maervahr casts fly.
  • Koriss is invisible and tries to go behind these creatures.

We win initiative. Fly is cast. We see that the 13 humanoids we moving laterally from our camp. They hesitate for a couple moments. They start running in the other direction, fleeing. We will let them go.

Maervahr thinks they may have been Ogres. They continue rushing off to the north west.

NO COMBAT


We go back to sleep without any encounter.


Dead Moon the 2nd, 498

We polymorph the last two trolls. It is lightly raining and we start heading back. The first hex is a wasteland that looks blasted, like a desert. The party passes through plains and a sea of grass. We spot a stone building.


ROLL SURPRISE

The Bunker building that we see is ignored.

We continue on. At night we make camp.


Storm Moon the 3rd, 498

We are headed toward Eliope.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised (6).

14“ away we spot 4 Lions laying in the snow, close to each other. Jacob attempts to divebomb before getting into melee.

  • Tatrin avoids, with Lok-Vurn.
  • Natasha avoids.
  • Kirei avoids.
  • Maervahr and Koriss avoids.
  • Josalyn is dive bombing.
  • Skalf and Deru avoid them.

The Lions flee after being dive bombed by the Hippogriff riders.

NO COMBAT


Josalyn and Natasha receive Stoneskin.

The night in Eliope passes without incident.


Storm Moon the 4th, 498

We make it to Ornholm and Maervahr casts Stoneskin on Jacob and Thorgard.


We each attempt to sell a Troll.

We will not get XP for the Ogres, since they fled due to a Reaction roll but the Lions will grant XP.

Koriss leveled up to Thief 3, rolled 1.66 hp.

We arrived on the 4th, looking for a trainer on the 5th, Koriss will be available on Storm Moon the 13th, 498.
