Session 229, April 2nd, 2025 - RETURN TO REIR'AL

Titus received a magical ring that summons a Bird of Paradise that is the size of a Roc. Titus was training for his new level when he took a couple of hours to test out the ring. He rides on the Bird of Paradise and rises up, he goes high into the sky and disappears! He spots the most beautiful Elven forest he has ever seen in the new place where he arrived, trees in all directions as the Bird brings him down sharply before setting him down gracefully on the forest floor. The ground is pleasant to walk on and there are squirrels near him who don't mind his presence.

Titus tells the bird, we must go back. It takes off again and he arrives back besides Walker. The Bird of Paradise transforms back into the Emerald Gem on his magic ring.

Titus earns 2,500 xp from discovering the ring's ability.


Josalyn will attempt to divine the location that Titus discovered on his Bird of Paradise. The Divination is revealed.


Long Moon (10) the 23rd, 498

The party is in Mombafra.

We are setting out for Reir'al, to the far west of the Sea of Grass.

The plan is to subdue the Copper Dragon. Which resides on the top balcony of the Temple of Cine. The Temple of Cine was one of the only standing buildings and was a large brick building The balcony is made of hardwood but the rest is made of stone.


The weather is cloudy. We make for Farius and travel is uneventful.


Long Moon the 24th, 498

We set out for Gren today from Farius, the weather is cloudy. We stay in Nob for the night.


Long Moon the 25th, 498

The weather is still cloudy and we set out for Ornholm, across the Sea of Grass.

Travel is uneventful.


Long Moon the 26th, 498

It is raining, heavy rain in the morning. We make it to Eliope.

Eliope is a hamlet with 300 souls. A House of Shrines dedicated to Tralf, there are alot of Hunters and rumors of Ogres to the south.


Long Moon the 27th, 498

There is light rain in the morning. We arrive in Cennintix.

Cennintix is a highly religious settlement of 900 Tralf worshippers, they trade papyrus and quartz. They are ruled by a Theocracy, the high priest of Tralf rules the area.

There is a tower with some people off to the west.


Long Moon the 28th, 498

It is raining, heavy rain, in the morning. We set out to start exploring. Travel through the Sea of Grass is unventful, we have revealed two sea of grass.


Old Moon the 1st, 498

The weather clears up and we have 8 movement points today. There is an encounter…

Thorgard, Jacob and Josalyn are all flying on their Hippogriffs now. Iona is on her Giant Goat.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised.

We are making our way through the Sea of Grass. The Sea is dead and we have a clear view. About 2 miles off, they can see a single shape moving steadily across the ground, as big as a Bison. It is moving from the south to the north. As the riders keep an eye on it, it moves steadily to the east and does not come into our direction.

COMBAT AVOIDED


We continue on the path of exploration. There are no more encounters. We revealed more of the Sea of Grass to the south of Cennintix.


ROLL SURPRISE

Airborne riders are surprised but those of us on the ground are not surprised. We come across a small Thorpe in the hex, in the Sea of Grass.

We can see the residents who have stopped to look at our approaching party.

NO COMBAT


We approach the people of the thorpe and Stevie hails them. This is called Qintama. This is a humble place made of wood buildings and a simple pallisade. The weeds are overgrown and the people look friendly and hardy.

The leader of Qintama is a Druid named Asyrin.

The towns heritage is a temple about a quarter mile on the other side of town, it is very ancient and is important to the bards. They are very humble. They view their temple as worthy. This is the site of a pilgramage taken by Bards in training, as they progress through the college, they can study and meditate here. Stevie aspires to be a Bard one day.

There are no ameneties here but they can sell us regular rations and give us water. They are 80% of the value of normal standard rations.


Old Moon the 2nd, 498

The weather is cloudy.

We head south west from Qintama. More Sea of Grass is found and some plains. We find some marshland and head north west around the marsh to find some more plains.

The hippogriff riders head to the north east and find a barren land, essentially a desert. The ground mounted party heads north west and finds a Lake. Iona starts fishing briefly waiting for the Hippogriff riders and then head south west.

The evening is cloudy.


Old Moon the 3rd, 498

The morning is still cloudy. The ground party is headed for Heshib while the air party explores.

No encounters on the ground and the air party continues exploring, east of Ankarat Kepra.

The riders see a castle in the distance, it is a bit bigger than the keep in Delbo. It lies in some plains.

It looks like a ruined castle. They take a wide berth around it and find the Sea of Grass.

We are all in Heshib. The weather gets clear.


Old Moon the 4th, 498

The morning is clear. We have 6 hexes until we reach Reir'al.


ROLL SURPRISE

They are not surprised in the air (4).

They can see over the dead grass, the same bison like shape they saw before. This one is still and is about 3 miles away. The riders try to avoid it.

COMBAT AVOIDED


We make it to Reir'al.

This is an ancient Elven city. It is mostly destroyed with 5 towers and an obelisk, a grove of apple trees, a temple of Cine and a large building. There are pigs wandering throughout the grove along some gazelle. The place looks abandoned.

Thorgard and Jacob will fly over the Temple to see if the Dragon is asleep.

Lil' Chubs joins the party.

We are in the eastern border of Reir'al and head toward the back of the Temple.

Josalyn casts Find Traps and then Protection from Good on Jacob.

Jacob hands both of his rings and backpack to Kheskhor. After that Iona, Chubbs and Zarion all fail to pick the rear door lock.

Tatrin casts Silence which will last for 12 rounds. Knock is then cast. The door opens silently, there is no sound.


We find a dark empty chamber with a dark font with no bowl. The door at the end of the hall is closed. Thorgard and Jacob try to open the door.

The Copper Dragon is not asleep but it did not hear us coming. It is not surprised.

We open the door, Ahexalin the great is on the balcony. She is behind the railings, currently laying down and is positioned behind the bulk of the railing. She raises her head.


ROLL SURPRISE

  • Iona is moving silently and starts walking up the wall in the north east corner.
  • Jacob tries to get his grapple ready.
  • Josalyn is not in the room yet.
  • Thorgard will move up to the balcony as cover.
  • Tatrin is casting prayer.
  • Lok-Vurn comes with Thorgard.
  • Lygan follows Jacob's lead.
  • Ekkor stays out with Kheskhor.
  • Stevie charges in, under the balcony.
  • Zarion is outside and tries to hide in shadows.
  • Lil Chubbs comes in after the Dwarf to use the rope.

The Copper Dragon does NOT breathe!

It leaps off the balcony and comes at us, going for Stevie. It moves down and comes down ferociously. Stevie attacks with her shortsword.

The Dragon has AC 2. Stevie hits! She does 8 damage. The Dragon survives. Stevie was charging so she has AC 5. All attacks hit but the Stoneskin defends against the attack!

Thorgard and Lil Chubbs are in melee distance. Chubbs misses but the Dragon is enraged and wooden objects turn to splinters by her thrashing.

Iona is climbing up the wall on the side of the dragon.

  • Thorgard and Lok-Vurn attack
  • Lygan attacks
  • Ekkor is praying.
  • Chubbs yells and attacks.
  • Stevie attacks trying to staying clear of the breath weapon.
  • Zarion continues moving silently to backstab.
  • Iona is on the ceiling above the dragon.
  • Jacob attacks
  • Josalyn attacks

Stevie has the Shortsword of Quickness and they all attack. Jacob does 17 damage. 3 damage from Lygan.

The Dragon does NOT Breathe! It still goes after Stevie. Stevie missed with her attack and then the Dragon tries to bite, she has AC -2. 1 claw hits Stevie for 3 damage. Iona misses with her attack.

Lok-Vurn hits for 6, severely wounding the Copper Dragon. Jacob does 19 and Lygan does 9, Thorgard does 14.

WE SUBDUE THE COPPER DRAGON!

COMBAT ENDS


Iona salutes the Dragon and tells it we will be taking all its treasure now. She then begins searching the balcony for any treasure while Stevie looks for dragon scales.

  • 12 Copper Dragon scales, 2 Copper Dragon scales, plus whatever Stevie collects from the Dragon.

She is trying to take enough to cover a backpack or cloak. Nobody stops Stevie and the Dragon is still subdued. Zarion is using his skills to look around for secret compartments. Zarion finds a secret door in the eastern stone wall. Zarion calls out to the others about the door.

Josalyn's find traps spell is still going and she does not find any traps. Zarion can tell that the secret door could be pulled open. There are clear signs that it has been used a lot. There is a hidden wall behind stone.


There is a very sharp dusty staircase in the wall of the temple. Zarion carefully walks up the hallway. We go through the 5' staircase, and find that they are rotten. There is another side of the wall that is a secret door. Zarion opens it and finds himself on the balcony. It looks like the place where the dragon sleeps and eats, Iona already explored it.

There used to be some wooden construction here but there are only remnants left. Iona starts searching the opposite wall for another secret door.

The Copper Dragon hobbles to the altar and lowers a talon to the stone gray floor behind the altar, very softly taps on the stone arrythmically about 12 times. Every time it touches it, the talon moves to another area and with each tap, a musical note rises up like a dwarven organ. Then, the altar depresses quickly and a stone staircase is revealed.

Josalyn casts Find Traps.

We get to roll the horde ourselves!

Iona detects lesser magic on potions, oils and scrolls. Greater magic on the glass thing, medallion and buckler.

3/4 of the coins were inside of a large chest which we strap to the Dragon's back. A Copper Dragon can carry 12,000 coins over that it moves us slower than a medium horse.

Tatrin heals the dragon enough to stop the bleeding from the missing scales. The Dragon is healed for 10 in total and is not overly hostile to anyone.

Iona and Chubbs are cooking while we set up barriers inside the Temple. They lock the back door.

Night comes…

It goes by without incident.


Old Moon the 5th, 498

It is clear in the morning. We set out for Ornholm, which will leave us with 2 nights in the wilderness.


ROLL SURPRISE

Airborne party must roll and is not surprised, nor is the encounter.

They notice over 100 humanoids, man sized carrying great banners of law and good, traveling with horses and carts and 3 balistae, guarded by the caravan. They are moving to the west, north west. The colors are green and cobalt.

COMBAT AVOIDED


The rest of the day is uneventful.

The weather has cleared up, no encounters in the evening.

During the night, Zarion is going to assassinate Chubbs to suffocate him. Everyone has noticed that Chubbs has cried out in the night. Lok-Vurn says “let them fight it out!”. Chubbs is surprised and Zarion gets two assassination attempts. Chubbs is dead actually. Zarion yells out that he killed his family, Josalyn casts Hold Person. Zarion starts crying on the ground, I have avenged you mother.

We have a trial. Iona says a prayer to Nefer…Your blessing upon us.


Old Moon the 6th, 498

The weather is clear and the trial begins. Josalyn casts Detect Lie and Zarion says that he killed his family and ate them. They cast “Speak with Dead” and ask Chubbs if he killed his family…he responds “Elf Stew”.


COMBAT BEGINS

Stevie offers Trial by Combat. They immediately start fighting as the Dragon watches attentively. Stevie misses as does Zarion. Zarion hits for 1 damage. Stevie also hits, Stoneskin. Zarion misses. Zarion tries to cast Magic Missile but it is ruined! Stevie does 7 damage and he is unconscious.

We make it to Ornholm and will then head to Macetor.


Old Moon the 8th, 498

We arrive in Macetor on the evening of the 8th. The Dragon Market is open! There is a huge swing in the Dragon's value, determined by 1d8x100. We receive 32,000 gp for the DRAGON!

If we get a 25,000 gp gem it may have 1d4 wishes.
