Risten is learning Monster Summoning II, which is a 4th level spell. He paid 400 gp.
The party is currently in Mombafra. The weather is cloudy today. We have all met in Starling.
We are going to head to the Forgotten Master's Tower.
Elithra identified the 4 +3 arrows and she got 150 xp. 75 xp each arrows divided by 2 for being a henchmen.
We will head north to end up north of Dead Men's Stone. We camp the night in the tower.
It starts heavily raining while at the Tower of the Forgotten Master. Evening weather is still raining.
Its lightly raining but we still set out. Travel is uneventful. We end up in a scrubland valley, through the domain of DEAD MAN'S STONE, and are unseen by Brigands. We are in the mountains north of Dead Men's Stone.
Xrith is riding a Hippogriff and scouting around.
There are Hills, we see medium forest, badlands, more scrubland.
In the evening, it is still lightly raining. Nothing comes for us.
The weather is now just cloudy, the rain has stopped. We will head two hexes north through hills. We pass through some settlements. There is nothing in the Hexes we have been passing through, no settlements.
We are not surprised (6) as Xrith flies overhead.
He is a short distance ahead and sees 10 Wild Dogs running between the trees, they are 14” away. Xrith notices that the dogs have not noticed us by the time Xrith lands. There was no yapping or blinking amongst the dogs.
The rest of the day is uneventful. To the south west are hills and north west are some roughlands or badlands.
No encounters while we camp.
The weather is still cloudy in the morning. There are no encounters during the day as we head north, into a bunch of hills and there is also some badlands. We are 4 hexes south of the goal.
The weather is clear in the evening. Something happens during the third watch…
We are surprised as is the other side. NOTHING HAPPENS!
We head straight north as the weather is clear. There are no encounters today and the terrain is documented to the east.
We spot the fissure up ahead. The structure has not been raised from the ground at all.
We have traveled to the site of a recent seismic shift. There is a two level stone temple that rose up. There was some breakage in some parts of it. We have slain the being that was the adversary of Voltendo's quest. It periodically was rising but has not risen since we left.
We are on the edge of the fissure looking down.
The fire is still coming out of the top level. We saw a very low hole with some mist coming out and a 4th hole that was very small that we did not go inside. The hole looks to be a short distance from the mist hole, about 60' down. Medium creatures would need to remove bulky armor to fit through. 30' to the east is a tiny hole.
We enter through the same path we took before, down the rock slide.
Phantom armor absorbs damage points and it will work with normal armor being worn.
We descend down into the fissure and alight on the rock slide and then go into the dark hallway. We all get down safely.
Yohan and Fothas both have Continual Light.
We head down the south west door opening a door we have not opened before.
We are in a captain's chambers with the furniture pushed aside. There are bones of deer and wolves, some scraps of furs and it has a smell of sweat and oil. Nobody is inside. To the right of the desk is an armor rack that looks to be suited for a Dwarf, rather than a Human. The room is 40' x 40'. Yohan searches the desk and Xrith will thoroughly search. Fothas and Tor-Karad look for shifting walls.
There are no sliding or secret doors but we find food scaps that are a couple days old, crumbs, that are locating all over the room. Some of the trash appears to be new. Though the Dwarves did not find anything, they notice that the rack is a Dwarven quality. There are some signs of recent damage to the rack as though it was mishandled.
The room smells, perhaps like an Orc or another Humanoid. Yohan can tell that Ogres were the ones that chewed on the bones.
Risten has a Charm Monster spell prepared.
We head to the east passage, looking for signs of Ogres. We go through the double barracks, which are empty. Corpses are missing and we proceed to the final hallway. The party enters the messhall which is empty except for a table. Xrith listens but does not hear anything.
The door opens and we are now in the bottom left corner of the hallway. After 40' the corridor turns left and to the left is another long hallway that continues past our light. We head east…

We hear a noise around the corner, something of medium hardness dropped a short distance on the ground.
We lost initiative (6).
As we get into position, we hear something moving…and then the adversaries approach, a humanoid, lanky, each carrying a broadsword, one of which glows purple. Their faces are masses of squirming tentacles.
The creatures are charging. AC 2/2
Elithra hits for 5 damage. Tor-Karad misses. The creatures are wearing armor on under their cloaks.
Fothas attacks first but misses. They all attempt to kill Yohan, working together. He is at -6 AC, type 1 due to Protection from Evil. No hits from the first attacks, the glowing blade is also deflected by Yohan!
Elithra takes a second shot and misses. Each of them attacks with their tentacle attacks! Fothas will try to cut off their tentacle, which he can do on a 19 or 20 with a slashing weapon. Their faces are exposed. There are no hits on Yohan again.
Second attacks all miss.
We lose initiative.
They attack with their broadsword. Xrith and Darvan are potential targets. Fothas is attacked with the glowing sword as is Darvan.
One attack against Darvan, AC 5, which hits on a 20! Darvan takes 5 damage and takes a hit from a tentacle for 2 damage. He is still alive but just barely! He must save versus disease and can see that there are tiny crablike creatures. He must save versus poison, and he does and avoids the crabs!
The other two swords on Fothas attack, both miss! One tentacle hits Fothas for 1 damage and must save, actually twice as he takes 3 from a tentacle. The Crabs jump off the tentacles and start gnawing on his face and in his beard.
Elithra forgoes her shot as does Tor-Karad. Darvan hits with a 20! One of the tentacles is cut off, it was on the glowing sword wielder! He does 2 damage. Yohan did 9 damage. Fothas did 9 damage.
Lyo gets into melee and Magic Missile goes off. The glowing sword wielder takes 12 damage as he is blasted!
Morale check is rolled on the enemy tentacle creatures! Fothas kills one with with 8 damage! Elithra kills one and cuts off one of the tentacles, it is Glowing Sword wielder!
Their morale check is passed. The survivor swings at Darvan. He is trying to escape but he only has AC 5 with Protection From Evil. He is struck. Darvan takes 4 damage and falls unconscious! The creature looms over Darvan and intends to leave crabs…actually no, it keeps fighting.
Magic Missile goes off and kill the creature instantly!
Beyond the glow of the purple broadsword, is an illuminated string of doors with 20' of space inbetween them. They are facing a curved chamber that looks like it was once a garden. There are big stone sections with large amounts of soil and pottery. There is a humanoid figure here, an Orc. There are small thorns and ivy leaves running up and down his lifeless form. The plants crawling all over its face. There are two more Orcs in the more enclosed areas.
Elithra cures disease as a Paladin, immediately causing the exoskeletons of the crabs to peel back, killing them instantly. Lyo casts Cure Light Wounds on Darvan. He gets 2 hp. Darvan is still unconscious but only a little out of it. The armored enemies are all wearing full sets of plate mail, they all have coin purses.
One turn passes after combat, 8 more hp are given to Darvan. Darvan is no longer in a coma.
We can see the Orcs in the gardens which are covered in vegetation. The clay pots are around the edge of the room. Inside of the area are half moon shaped stone constructions, like well walls. One Orc is inside the pot that was buried up to his thighs, two more Orcs are planted in the stone wall areas, up to their thighs.
Fothas took 1 damage before they were removed. Elithra can tell that they appear to have eaten some of Fothas's flesh. The Orcs do not have any parasites on them. Desmond notices a dark liquid, very slowly seeping out of the farthest garden section, coming from behind it.
We had put all the items in the Bag of Holding. Detection of evil is used and we detect nothing.
Xrith begins lighting the torch and hands it to Elithra who will burn everything since they happen to be immune to disease. The Orc does not catch fire very well but the vegetation does. The Orc is burning slowly and then they move to the other Orcs, finding a fourth Orc covered in vegetation. It looks like it was slain with a great slash there are no Orcs or vines on the ceiling. The Orc had the vegetaion on him before it was slashed.
Elithra goes to tip over the smaller pots to see what is inside. A bunch of dirt comes out, like poor loam that is dry and empty.
We will check out the doors after Lyo casts Find Traps.
The hall terminates in a dead end and Lyo detects no traps. Yohan uses Whirlrender to search for secret doors, there is a secret door ahead and Lyo does not see a trap. Fothas and his Dwarf henchman look at the wall and sees that it slides to the right but there is no obvious means to open it. 6 of the bricks are loose. They start pushing the bricks, one of them has a small switch inside. Pushing the switch opens the Secret Door!
It opens to a large room.
We are not surprised. Beyond the secret door is a wooden door to the left, which connects to an angled wall. We also notices that the ceiling is covered in thick Spider webs. There are some large creatures moving around up in the ceiling.
The furniture in the room looks like a ruined lounge. There are 10 shapes moving beyond the webs. They have a +2 AC.
Xrith misses completely. Yohan does 1 damage and then misses his second shot. Tor-Karrad misses.
The torch goes up and immediately catches fire. They are highly flammable.
There is a great hissing of spiders inside as they burn.
We open the door on the west and find 5 beds and a table. No traps are inside. There was damage from the fire and from a burning flask of oil.
We go to the next room immediately to avoid mapping them and wasting time on the Find Traps spell. No traps in the second room and the last room has 6 beds and no traps.
Xrith listens but does not hear anything.
Fothas opens the secret door, all the webs are gone and smoking remnants of spiders. There are some formerly fine leather chairs with brass knobs. They are arranged in 4 groups with nice mahogany tables. There are 8 corpses of Large Spiders.
We open the far door and are not mapping the room.
There is a hallway before us that goes down 30' before we see a wall of light blue mist. We immediately leave.
Through the south door is another hallway that ends in a T intersection.
We search the lounge thoroughly. Lyo finds that one of the brass knobs is loose. Whirlrender does not detect any secret doors. Xrith starts looking at the knob, which is a brass knob which might be worth 10-20 gp. Inside the loose knob, and laying against a leather pouch is a captains pipe made of solid gold.
Xrith checks the items.
Risten is carrying Darvan but he can only move by himself at 1“. He is fully healed also.
We go back to map the rooms. The first chamber with 5 beds, we begin searching thoroughly. Yohan looks for Secret Doors with Whirlrender, when he stands at the corner, it senses a secret door. It sounds like the wall is less thick than elsewhere. Fothas and his Dwarf do not find a way to open it.
We open the next door which is a room with 6 beds in it, Xrith searches the room, under the beds. Yohan and Fothas check the north wall for secret doors. They locate a secret door up at the top and they find a loose brick with a switch. We do not find any items in the room. We must rest for a turn.
We are not surprised (6).
As we are recovering. The front line can hear consistent slow movements through the door. It is a soft, subtle noise like a steady whisper and some sliding.
Tied initiative (4).
Bursting through the door are many Orcs covered in vines and vegetation and bear Orcish weapons. They have a dead look in their eyes, like being pulled by a poltergeist. They did not charge.
There are 11 Orcs and are now in melee with Yohan and Fothas. 4 on Fothas and 6 on Yohan.
Xrith misses his shot, Elithra misses, Tor-Karrad misses. Elithra misses her second shot. A melee has broken out with the Orcs as though they are not in control of their bodies.
Lyo can turn a Wight, but has no effect.
Tor-Karrad misses. Fothas and Yohan attack, Elithra charges. They are wielding Falchions.
Fothas and Yohan each kill one with one shot! There are 9 alive and they are attacking. 3 attacks on Elithra who has a rapier, but she misses the counter. There is no Protection from Evil against these creatures. They will hit on 19's and they all miss.
Lyos Magic Missile kills 2 different ones!
The enemies attack but not before Elithra attacks with a fist and misses. Fothas and Yohan are attacked by 2 each. Yohan is missed but Fothas is hit and takes 7 damage!
The Fighters attack back and Fothas does 8 damage, killing another. The fight continues as there are 6 left. They try to throw their bodies at us and have high precision in their movements. Their mouths are agape.
Fothas kills one, Xrith misses, Yohan kills one, Elithra hits with her fist doing 1d3+1, killing one!
Magic Missile goes off against the remaining 3, two more are dead! There is only one Orc left. The creature attacks Elithra.
Fothas slays the creature!
It is 3 turns before we must retreat to our camp. Fothas pressed the button on the swtich which opens the stone wall. We must…
We are NOT surprised for 2 segments. It is a tiny cramped bed chamber with a 3 long human spines with a Skull on the end. We are in melee with them and they look at us with glowing eye sockets! These are large creatures, 3 of them.
Turn Undead has no effect. Elithra and Yohan can attack. They must hit AC 2. Elithra hits one for 2 damage, Yohan did 8 killing one, Fothas killes one. It begins waving with a hypnotic movement. We must all save versus magic. Yohan and Lyo are both hypnotized by the Necrophidius.
Fothas does another 14 damage, destroying it! Yohan comes out of his daze. We looks around and can see it is spartan. There is a drawer with no lock and Xrith does not find any traps, then steps back.
Yohan holds his breath and opens the door. He finds a bundle with an animal strap. He will unbundle it.
We head back the way we came, passing through 4 doors and taking 2 turns. When we head back to the garden we see the bodies of the tentacle creatures and the Orc bodies. As we approach the Barracks…
We are not surprised.
We can hear something crash from the darkness up ahead in the barracks. We do not see anything.
We win initiative and move carefully down the hall. In 1 segment, we advance .9”. No enemies are revealed in the light. There are many things moving in the darkness as they continue to advance until finally the light illuminates 9 Large Spiders that are perched on the beds and on the walls, spread out greatly. They are 6“ away from the Spiders.
Lyo has enough light for a shot. 13” range for a shot if we choose to fire.
On segment 5, the Fireball is thrown from the necklace ID 192. He fires it into the middle of the room. It is a 20' x 20' radius. It is not 40' high, but will cover 1d3+6 Large Spiders. They save at 17 and two Spiders save versus magic. The damage is 12 damage. All of the failed Spiders are dead as are all of them that can be targeted are dead! 8 of 9 Spiders are dead. When the flash is gone, the room is illuminated just enough to see the one remaining Spider. It scuttles to the side of the room and starts coming to an intersection, where it tries to flee.
Fothas pursues it but it wins. Fothas is charging and moves at 24“ and manages to catch it, autohitting for 13 damage.
We well set up camp outside and make it out with no encounters.
Elithra lays on hands to Fothas for 2 hp. Lyo Cures Light Wounds for 9 and 4 hp on Fothas.
In the evening we camp a half mile away from the fissure. Weather is clear.
During the third watch, we must…
Something is surprised but we are not.
Moving in the moonlight is a pack of Jackals off in the distance. Elithra douses the fire and wakes people up. The Jackals avoid us.
It is clear today. Risten will make Darvan invisible. We will leave him out with the mounts. Our spells are prepared and we head back.
We get through the doors and find the hall that went north before the garden room.
We are not surprised but something is…
There is some movement beyond from Giant Centipedes in the room. They have noticed us and there are 16 of them. They are 4” away.
All the ranged attacks are too far away to fire our shots. They start their charge on segment 1.
We lost initiative (5) and get no actions despite them being surprised.
They are actually 3“ away and still too far away. Yohan and Fothas can attack with sweep attacks. Fothas kills 7 of them, Yohan kills 6 for a total of 13. There are more centipedes that they can see. A total of 32 Giant Centipedes, and now they are down to 19. They counter the sweep attacks. There are 8 attacks on Yohan and Fothas each. 6 attacks against Yohan, AC 1. No hits! 3 attacks against Fothas all miss! Magic Missile and goes off. There are 3 Centipedes he can see but he kills 4 of them.
There are now 15 Giant Centipedes left. Desmond charged and killed one in the room.
Elithra moves up to get a shot. Risten casts Magic Missile. 2 attacks on Yohan and they miss, 2 attacks on Desmond, 1 hits and he must save versus poison, he saves!
Desmond kills one of the Centipedes, and the other two are killed by Fothas and Yohan. More Centipedes move in as Magic Missile goes off and destroys the one Centipede remaining.
We continue up the hallway and get to the Mess Hall where we end up in the hall and head north.
There is a T intersection after 40' and the hall continues. There is another T intersection up ahead, to the north.
The Dwarves think we are sloping upwards a little bit. Immediately to the left is a staircase and to the right is another hallway that goes into the darkness.
We are not surprised.
When we are mapping the hallway, we hear a deep hardy CROAK that reverberates down the hallway.
Almost no sound comes down the hallway, other than that we can hear a wet slap and a croak again. Nothing comes.
We proceed down the hallway, when we get to the curve, we see a billowing light blue mist to the north. There are no creatures. The cloud doesnt have a source and no magic barrier, similar to the gas weep we found before, like a hardy mist.
There is a smell of moisture that we can smell. There is a grumbling and a choked croak from the mist. There is a high humidity. Lyo casts Detect Magic. There is a radiance of magic from the mist. We take out all of the items we get:
Xrith tosees a stone into the mist, which is followed up by some croaks. There is some movement beyond the mist. He tries to hide in the shadows. Presently we hear rhythmic and continues slapping sounds going away.
We head back down the hall and periodically whirlrender detects No secret doors.
We find ourselves in the last room on the east with 6 bunks.
Elithra is being attacked, it leaps on its legs toward Elithra. Fothas has a 50% chance to be in melee. It was a little purple blue crab that we found on one of the tentacles, but Fothas kills it.
We head back to the armory room. Back in the officer's chamber. Nothing is found when searching for secret doors.
We will head back to take Darvan back for bedrest. Xrith is flying and travel is uneventful, we arrive in the badlands.
We continue and the weather is clear. We go to the hills hex.
The weather is clear in the evening.
The weather is clear in the morning, we will take the medium forest and will camp in the Dead Man's Stone.
Weather is clear and we make back to Starling the next day!
If we sell the plate mail in Mombafra, we can sell it there. Yohan sells it in Mombafra, 1200 gp in total.
The Tobacco is worth 60 gp. 800 gp for the pipe.
Broadsword +1 (bluish purple glow) is tested by Desmond. He knicks himself to see how it feels and does not feel sickly, warm or cold.
Yohan wears the ship anchor amulet and tries to walk on water and then tries to breathe underwater. He does notice that when the medallion hits the water, there is a slight pull downward. But he cannot get it to happen again, the same pulling feeling cannot be reproduced. Lyo casts Detect Magic on the amulet and it is still magical.
The runes on scroll arrange into a map, 25-30 miles south of the Fissure.
Fothas will taste the potion. He hears many voices in his hand, hearing Yohan and Risten's voice.
Elithra tries the green potion, for a moment tiny half inch spikes stick out of her flesh, like many needles poking her.
