The weather is clear and the first day is uneventful.

The weather remains clear this morning and travel through the Sea of Grass is without incident.

We are 7 hexes away from An'karet Kepra.

BLOOD MOON the 22nd, 498

The weather is cloudy on the 3rd day. Travel is uneventful. We are 6 hexes in and 1 hex away. We will have 3 hours of light. We set up camp for the night about 1/10th of a mile from An'karet Kepra. Jacob has his Elven chain on and it begins lightly raining in the evening.

During the 3rd watch…

ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised due to Maervahr's weasel. His ears perks up and looks to the south. In the darkness we can see the silhouettes of the grass moving, about 11“ away. Its all coming from one direction.

  • Jacob puts himself between the camp and says “Stop there!”
  • Pithor joins Jacob.
  • Maervahr begins casting Fly
  • Koriss begins waking people up.
  • Lorenth wakes people up.

Jacob can throw a reaction roll, -35% and we get a bad reaction. There is no sound of reaction in the grasses. Maervahr finishes his spell just before the attackers exit the grass. Bursting from the grass come 11 Large Wolves. They are not Wargs but medium sized Wolves. They are in a pack charging straight at us.

Maervahr flies up 15” straight. They will get to us this round. They will attack anyone they can. Jacob and Pithor are 2“ away from the camp. They have 5 segments to move.

They attack Ekkor who has AC 10 as he wakes up. He is hit and takes 4 damage. Maervahr cannot be attacked. There is one attack on Lygan which misses. Koriss has AC 2 and is hit once STONESKIN. Pithor hits for 7 damage and Pithor is missed. Timbraun is being attacked. He is hit, for 10 points. Papier is hit for 8 damage and drops to -3. But he hits it for 5 damage. Jacob hit for 6 on his first attack and missed the second attack. Thorgard attacks and hits for 7 damage and then 9 damage. Tatrin attacks and hits for 4 damage. Josalyn hit for 5 and 5 damage.

  • Ekkor attacks

There are 9 Wolves in the camp, 2 on Jacob and Pithor.

Koriss hits for 11 damage using Cataclyzer, Pithor missed. Thorgard did 7 damage and Ekkor did 6 damage. Timbraun centers the Sleep spell on Lornth which will effect all of the 1st level henchmen. That knocks out all of us.

The Wolves attack but Prayer goes off on segment 10. Jacob is hit and takes 4 damage, actually no, STONESKIN! Spook went off at the same time as Sleep, a Wolf must make a save which it fails! The Wolf is spooked and it tries to flee. They get parting shots to hit AC 5.

Thorgard hits for 6 damage against a Werewolf. Pithor is missed.

8 of them are attacking the south party. One attack on Lygan, misses. Josalyn is attacked and hit, STONESKIN. Tatrin is hit for 7 damage and another hit for STONESKIN. Two more hits for 6 and 4 damage and 2 more hits for 6 and 7 damage, Tatrin is at 0 hp. Papier is at -3 hp currently.

Hold Monster goes off and two are held, two of them are slowed. One of the Werewolves is still spooked.

  • Maervahr casts Sepia Snake Sigil
  • Pithor attacks
  • Timbraun casts Invisibility
  • Lorynth is sleeping
  • Jacob goes full offense and attacks
  • Josalyn is yelling at Timbraun
  • Thorgard attacks

Thorgard hits for 13 damage. Jacob hit for 11.

Three of the Werewolves are dead but they automatically pass the Morale check. Two Werewolves attack Jacob and miss.

In the south melee, two are held so 4 are attacking. One attack on Lygan, he is hit for 7 damage. One attack on Timbraun, hits for 4 damage. Two attacks on Josalyn, one hit for 6 damage.

Maervahr targets one of the slowed Werewolves. The Werewolf saves!

  • Timbraun disengages
  • Maervahr casts Light.

Thorgard hit for 10, Josalyn hit for 9, Jacob kills the one on him, Lygan hit for 10. The two slowed Werewolves are dead.

Timbraun casts Cure Light Wounds on himself.

Tatrin, Papier, Pithor, Ekkor and Timbraun are all effected by Lycanthropy.

COMBAT ENDS

Lycanthropes turn in 7 to 14 days or they are forced to change on the Full Moon.

We are 3 days to Ornholm but are heading straight for Macetor.

Maervahr casts Invisibility on Koriss.

We are flying off and we see some ruins off in the distance, to the east. We see 8 to 10 stone things covered in foliage. They could be big columns or statues, some are toppled. They are not in an obvious perfect circle.

We discuss the Hippogriffs and if they are laying eggs. DM will check on this for the 2nd month.

The next hex we travel into is a forest but the south hex is scrubland, which is the direction we go.

BLOOD MOON the 24th, 498

The second watch has an encounter…

ROLL SURPRISE

On the second watch, there are 9 shapes moving in the dark, humanoid.

  • Jacob tries to parley with the forms.
  • Ekkor wakes Lygan up and helps him with his armor.
  • Kheskhor wakes up the camp.
  • Timbraun wakes people up.

Reaction check causes the forms to go off laterally and continue on silently. Jacob will shoot an arrow with continual light past them. He shoots the illuminated arrow which casts light on the shape of an Ogre.

Does the light enrage it? It shuns off the light it does not react negatively and it continues off into the darkness.

COMBAT AVOIDED

BLOOD MOON the 25th, 498

The weather is clear in the morning after making camp. To the north east is marshland. Koriss takes Tatrin's horse as he leaves behind all his armor and such on his horse so Thorgard can fly off to Macetor faster.

During our travel, we see a non-ruined Hamlet about 3 miles distant, north west of Kam's castle.

We decide to stop at the Hamlet, which is called Nishjo. There are 300 people and it has unusual architecture. It is quite foreign with their own style.

Maervahr approaches and introduces himself and gets a bad reaction we are unwelcome. They do not like outsiders. The Hamlet has a wooden pallisade and all the buildings are made of darkwood where there is a single pathway. The roofs are sharply pointed, like conical hats. The buildings are supported by a column in every corner of the structure. It looks like a spearhead. The top levels have Wooden balconies.

The people have a darker skin tone than what we are used to, perhaps farther south or east and they talk with an accent. We have heard before that there were people that immigrated here so this is not overly unusual.

Maervahr uses his Amulet of ESP to try and read their minds and determine why we are unwelcome. Maervahr detects surface thoughts of the leader, they dont want us in town because we will cause more trouble. They are close to Kam's Castle and they will have more trouble than they already have. They think Kam's Castle was occupied after Nishjo's founding. The people that control the castle caused their trouble.

They tell Josalyn they do not need any healing from a Cleric of Venha because they have a Patriarch priest already. We see a temple building that is dedicated to Grack.

We depart Nishjo and continue on to Macetor.

Jacob will fly off and there is an airborne check for him.

ROLL SURPRISE

Jacob can see about a quarter mile, a group of 200 humanoids moving in close formation. They are man-sized or so and are wearing armor. They are moving carefully through the reeds in the direction of the south west. He notices them and can evade them before they notice him. He makes it back to Macetor.

NO COMBAT

Thorgard gets to Macetor and so does Jacob. Timbraun puts up his 2nd level spellbook for security with Jacob to get the 1000 gp for Cure Disease.

Meanwhile, camping in the hills for the rest of the party. The weather is clear.

BLOOD MOON the 26th, 498

The rest of the party makes it to Macetor.

Pithor, Ekkor and Papier. Pithor obtains 6 doses of Black Lotus blossoms that would be enough to kill him, from Maervahr.

All 3 characters taken into the Macetor temple of Geos who will take them off our hands for now.

Maervahr asks about Kam's Castle. Kam and the band of Brigands still control the castle. Its a pretty large band of Brigands. Macetor's army is enough to prevent them from being attacked. They estimate 150-200 Brigands reside at Kam's Castle and they have siege equipment. It is not common knowledge of what they have but we have several Fighters with high enough social status that we can get information on the enemies castle. Jacob and Thorgard learn that they have a Magic-User and a Cleric there.

Jacob and Timbraun get Stoneskin.

BLOOD MOON the 27th, 498

Lygan and tatrin get Stoneskin and the weather is cloudy.

Travel is uneventful as we arrive south of Nishjo.

BLOOD MOON the 28th, 498

Koriss and Josalyn get Stoneskin. Travel is uneventful and we can camp in the Sea of Grass or in a meadow.

There is an encounter in the meadow. Actually no.

We will not advance the calendar for one week.

HARVEST MOON the 1st, 498

Stoneskin is cast on Lorynth. We make it to the hex north of the forest and near the ruins. We are two hexes closer to An'karet Kepra.

HARVEST MOON the 2nd, 498

We arrive at An'karet Kepra and begin exploring.

Jacob and Josalyn both have Continual Light. Jacob and Thorgard are opening doors.

We try to enter through the front double doors, into the chamber in the pool.

Maervahr casts Deeppockets and Koriss is still Invisible.

ROLL SURPRISE

We are walking through some grasses and come out to an open area on the path. The front line sees something on the path, just through the foliage. The group is concealed partially by the grasses. The air is distorted and greenish, a churning cloud with white green and streaks of yellow. It is moving across the path.

We have two segments of surprise.

  • Jacob, Josalyn, Thorgard, Tatrin are charging.
  • Lygan charges.
  • Maervahr casts Fly
  • Koriss hides while invisible.
  • Timbraun casts Magic Missile.
  • Lorynth crouches and hides.

We start casting our spells. Our front line is already in melee. Jacob is not in front so he is charging. Attacks on segment 1 must hit AC 3, +1 or better weapons. It is a medium creature.

Thorgard hit for 11 damage. Segment 2, Magic Missile goes off. Jacob hits for 10, Josalyn hit for 5 and 8, Thorgard did 7, Magic Missile did 11 damage.

We release an onslaught on this colorful cloud, and with the sound of an old dying man, it dissipates into puffs and waffs into a freshly farmed field.

COMBAT ENDS

The Grass Spirit is seemingly destroyed. Maervahr completes Fly and heads over to the remaining area of the Grass Spirit and uses Detection of Magic and only sees fading remnants of this thing.

It is not midday yet. We head toward the double doors and try to re-enter the double doors, avoiding the Brown Mold. We push our way in easily and head inside. There is an odor of death with long dead Horse skeletons and sand.

We check out the west door in the Stables. No traps are detected. Failed to open the door the first time…

ROLL SURPRISE

No surprise this time. The stairs descend downward to a room. We see the edge of a shelf and dusty barrels inside. We also directly see movement. There are two humanoid creatures at the base of the stairs. They are bulky and have a deep blackness in their eyes and they have a terrible smell of death. They shield their eyes from the Continual Light and have long solid black claws.

  • Lygan charges
  • Maervahr rises up to the ceiling and flies above the creatures.
  • Koriss moves silently and hides.
  • Timbraun tries Turn Undead.
  • Lorynth hangs back.
  • Jacob moves to engage.
  • Josalyn Turns.
  • Thorgard charges
  • Tatrin turns undead.

Turning checks go off. Timbraun fails to turn but Josalyn turns Wights. They turn 1 and 3. Timbraun failed his turning check. They are not Skeletons or Zombies but the holy symbols work.

There are 4 more in the room and they are brightly illuminated. It goes 40' deep, a total of 6 creatures. They are recoiling from the holy symbols but only the two in the front can see the holy symbols.

Thorgard does 13 damage. Lygan misses. 4 out of 6 are turned. 2 are counter-attacking Lygan and Thorgard. One charges Lygan who has AC -2. He is hit on a 15, missed! Thorgard is hit, STONESKIN!

Thorgard gets a second attack for 11 damage. They get a free attack against the fleeing ones, doing 13 and Lygan hit for 6 and 9 damage.

  • Thorgard, Tatrin and Lygan attack.
  • Maervahr casts Light on their eyes.
  • Koriss stays hidden.
  • Timbraun and Lorynth hold the door.
  • Jacob attack, Josalyn turns, Kheskhor keeps watch.

Jacob attacks first, AC 5. He misses!

Turning goes off for both Tatrin and Josalyn. Two attacks on Lygan who has AC -3. Both miss! Both creatures are turned.

Lygan and Thorgard attack. Lygan does 5 damage. Light spell goes off and does not blind one of the creatures.

Jacob does 14 damage. 3 of them have been destroyed and 3 are cowering.

  • Maervahr charges with his staff.

Jacob did 11 damage, Maervahr hit for 4 damage.

The creatures try to run away and flee through us.

Jacob and Thorgard get their attacks first. Thorgard hit for 12 damage and Jacob hit for 9. One more is destroyed.

Maervahr does 7 damage, Jacob kills one, we kills all of them!

COMBAT ENDS

We begin looting bodies. We find 10 barrels that are dusty on the west wall. The shelf has 13 bottles. 12 of 13 are filled. 9 have dark, 5 have light liquid. One of the dead creatures has a pouch that is outdated.

  • 75 pp
  • 8 gems

These were Wights!

Maervahr starts inspecting the barrels. Timbraun and Lorynth checks behind the barrels, Thorgard taps and they find a hollow section in the north wall. All 10 of the barrels contain wine, it is extremely high quality. Each one of these barrels is worth a lot of money.

9 of the bottles also have wine, the other ones have consistency of water. Thorgard starts looking for shifting panels.

Koriss inspects the door and we spend a turn searching, there is no button or switch. Thorgard tries to push on the wall. We search the whole room thoroughly while Lygan, Jacob and Josalyn begin moving the barrels. Thorgard gestures to to the empty bottle. It is connected to the shelf, lifting it opens the wall. It extends 20' before turning.

Each Barrel weighs 6000 coins so we leave the barrels in the room for now.
