STORM MOON the 19th, 497

Iona has heard that Seleb's reconstruction has progressed quite a lot, as the settlement has been assisted by The People of the Rock. Word is that they have funded much of the construction, and that the hamlet is being built around a new Shrine of the Rock. The adherents to Seleb's old ways are agitated, but are no match of the hefty purses of the People of the Rock.

Iona also learned three rumors: Rumor 1: The ruins of the Isomi Stone have disappeared overnight. Rumor 2: The Clan of the Coil refuses to communicate with Seleb at all. Rumor 3: Silver cranes have appeared above the Twisted Ziggurat of the Final Coil. They fly circles around its peak, and rest on its anguished statues. They never leave to eat or drink.


It will take us 30 miles to get to the Sehu clan. Because of a river that is in the way, Ainsatis is the best way to get to the people of the coil but they have a bad relationship with the Ukhatu. Have to take a Ferry across the river.

Our Archer Mercenaries are no longer employed.

We are headed out on the Barbarian quest.


STORM MOON 19th, 497

DAY 48.

Setting out toward the Sihul clan.

We get there in one day after passing through grasslands.

They are under the protection of some Druids in the Mesa Lands. They have some power that allows them to protect the area.

At the end of the day we arrive at the camp. They exchange words with them and there are tents in the forest up in the trees. They are tanning hides and cooking food, about 40 people here, maybe more with classed Barbarians.

The Druids have been there for longer than the Sihul clan. They have been there for generations. The Sihul clan come from the south. They are nomadic.

The weather is clear in the evening.

In the morning it is cloudy. Not attacked in the night.

The forest where they live is surrounded by badlands except for the Mesas where the Druids live. We will have to travel through the Pools of Kehmp, which is located to the south west.

Ensantus is built in a strategic position in the curvature of the river, with a lake to north and south. The village is located against some mesas. There are soldiers in the mesas.

The Pools of Kehmp here are runoff from the swamplands to the south. No river in this area. The pools are said to be enchanted and some dangerous animals go there.

The pools are like ponds, basins of water that fill up the lowlands, sometimes it floods here.


STORM MOON 20th, 497

Day 49.

We head south west into the pools.


ROLL SURPRISE

Jacob spots about a mile away to the north east. There are a flock of vultures circling overhead, circling something. They are likely vultures circling something that died near the pools.

COMBAT AVOIDED


We move further to the south west and mesas rise up above us as we move out of the badlands. There is some sort of large object glimmering in the sunlight, seen by Jacob. It is perched atop the highest mesa in the area. It is made of something reflective like metal.

There are smaller buildings up ahead. The guide says this is a construction built by the people of the rock. These blemishes on the landscape. They were constructed by them all over the Ukhatu's lands. This object is built of glass and steel.

The People of the Rock believe that visitors from the void above alighted on a butte, south east of Macetor. In the hamlet of Tella. The People of the Rock believe aliens landed on this rock long ago and shared wisdom with the people. They are trying to attract the aliens to visit again.

They contstruct great vibrating bowls of glass and steel. Skyward Beacons that are noisy and terrible in appearance. The People of the Rock defend these places. The Ukhatu would like to destroy them but the People of the Rock are influential and have a lot of money.

The People of the Rock have magic and power to rival any Barbarian tribe.

There are skirmishes between the Barbarians and the People of the Rock, it would be likely that they would accuse a Barbarian in their settlement with a crime. We can give the guide a holy symbol as part of his disguise.

There are a couple buildings constructed atop a mesa. We are going to a mesa beneath the mesa of the bowl.

We travel beneath the bowl, which looks like a “satellite dish”. As we approach, we hear the sound the guide informed us about. Its unrelenting and constant. Its a vibration we can feel on the bottom of the ground.

The Wild Beasts hate the sound and it angers the spirits. It reeks of magic.


We travel further and we can see two lakes on the other side of the mesas.

We arrive in AINSATIS. The people fish and farm. Their leader is LUMINARY KETAL.

There are some taverns and a House of Shrines with a 7th level Cleric of Nefer. We see a mix of people here, some from the north, others with tanned skin and some that appear to be adventurers. Heavily mixed settlement like Seleb. Unlike Lepolap.

In the tavern are people that are travelers that complain of the noise. The local People of the Rock offer protection so the people are viewed favorable. They are not adherents to the religion but those that are where white hooded robes with a gem affixed to the hood of the robe, such as an onyx. They dont have Cleric abilities though some are Clerics of the regular deities. The adherents are enthusiastic about the beliefs of the People of the Rock.

There is a large town called Tella, 150 miles south of Macetor, which is only a couple of miles from the Rock where the aliens landed in a past age. It is not known what wisdom was bestowed but they provided guidance after the severing which contributed to the growth of Tella.

When the Aliens arrived on the Butte, the people in the hamlet met with the aliens where they received gifts and knowledge. The Aliens came in ships from the sky. They want to gain knowledge and power again from them so they try to attract them back.

This would have happened 200 years after the Severing when there was very few people around. They say that some of the highest illuminaries have in the possession some weapons, they rival in power some of the magic items around.

Adventurers in the tavern agree that they radiate magic.

There is a river that goes to the one near Elsewater but there are GIANT SQUIDS and GIANT OCTOPI. There is a company of Dwarves up in the mountains that consider themselves excellent sailors. They take people for a hefty fee because they take several boats and do trading in Elsewater. Their boats have never been capsized.

The Dwarves are not associated with Ferrousil, its not associated with any settlement that is an iron fortress. It is in the shape of a military fort that is constructed completely of Iron. It is occupied by Will-o-the-Wisps. They travel on mysterious journeys outside of the fort, and can be seen in the plains outside the fort. It is a well known story. Nobody has stories of people going there and getting back alive.


STORM MOON 21st, 497

DAY 50.

The weather is clear the next day. Travel through the badlands, south of Ferrousil. We go south into the scrublands. We will force march through the night to get to the place. NVM, we camp in the badlands.

The player Map we are viewing was incorrect, DM will correct this later.

We camp out in the wilderness.

During Watch 1: Includes Josalyn, Sapphira and John.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised.

Distance is 14” away.

During the early hours of the evening except John, Josalyn and Sapphira are keeping watch. Including the Guide. They hear a buzzing noise suddenly. In the distance are approaching huge winged creatures. 2 creatures that have wings flapping fast with 6 legs.

  • John will nock an arrow and shoot at 5“.
  • Sapphira wakes up people.
  • Josalyn gets Jacob up onto his Hippogriff.

Tied initiative.

Everyone is out of armor except Lusia. Jacob has Stoneskin.

Lygan puts on his armor. There are two GIANT WASPS. Sapphira and Josalyn are the targets. John can fire both shots.

They have AC 5.

John hits twice for 3 damage.

Sapphira is charged so she can attack first with her sword. She hits for 8 damage. It is heavily wounded.

Sapphira has AC 3. The Giant Wasp misses!

Josalyn can attack and hits for 10 damage. Not dead. Josalyn has AC -1, both hits! She takes 6 damage plus 4 for the stinger, Save versus poison SHE SAVES!

  • Lusia attacks.
  • Personata puts on armor.
  • Lygan grabs his cleaver and buckler and charges the one on Josalyn.
  • Oswald casts Light.
  • John attacks.
  • Sapphira attacks.
  • Jedor attacks without armor.
  • Xrith charges the one on Sapphira.
  • Jacob will attack the one on Josalyn.
  • Josalyn attacks.

Xrith hit for 4 damage. Jacob hit for 16. Sapphira hit for 9. Lusia hit for 4.

We cut down both GIANT WASPS!

There is another encounter…

Happens during Watch 3.

1st watch: Josalyn, John, Sapphira. 2nd watch: Lusia, Xrith, Personata, Jedor. 3rd watch: Jacob, Oswald, Lygan.

3rd watch heres rustling in some brush nearby.


ROLL SURPRISE

Not surprised.

We see the brush at 20” away. Not bigger than a halfling but there are multiple bushes.

  • Oswald casts Prayer.
  • Lygan shoots at the bush.
  • Jacob takes off on his Hippogriff to get a better look.

Out from the bushes come 13 GIANT RATS.

Lygan shoots at medium range. They have an AC of 6. He misses!

Prayer goes off, we get +1 to hit and save.

  • Xrith throws a flask of burning oil.
  • Jacob dives.
  • Josalyn stays back.
  • Lusia closes to attack.
  • Personata closes to attack.
  • Lygan charges.
  • Oswald grabs a fire log.
  • Sapphira charges.
  • Jedor charges.
  • John charges.

We lose initiative.

They transform into a man-sized ratlike creature which they start to swing at us.

There are 9 of us and 13 of us.

One against John. AC 5/9 They hit on a 7. MISS! Sapphira is missed. Jedor has AC 8/9, takes 5 damage. Xrith is attacked 3 times AC 7/9. All of them hit. He takes 15 damage. Lusia has AC 6, she is hit for 2 damage. Lygan has armor. Missed. 3 attacks against Oswald, all missed.

Xrith hits for 8 damage. Sapphira did 4 damage. Oswald did 8 damage. Josalyn hit for 8 and 10. Jacob tries to subdue one for 9 damage. Lygan did 3 damage. Jacob does 14 damage to the same one. Jacob's hippgriff did 12 lethal damage.

3 Wererats are dead, 1 is subdued.

  • Lusia will attack with the silver mace.
  • Personata will grapple.
  • Oswald yells at the two and throws a silver mace at Lusia and Personata. He attacks too.
  • John is grappling.
  • Everyone else is attacking.

Jacob hit for 16. Xrith hit for 10. Josalyn hits for 6. The Hippogriff hits with all attacks for 13 damage.

Morale check this round.

They transform back into rats after failing morale.

Xrith hits one for 8. Jacob hit for 16. Lygan hit for 3. The Hippogriff hits for 7.

6 of them scurry off back the way they came.

We let them go but we have a captive.

COMBAT ENDS


Xrith is fully healed by Oswald and Jedor healed himself with Lay on Hands. Lusia also cured herself.

We plan to take the captive to find their lair. We have a prisoner Were Rat.

Josalyn casts detect magic on the Were Rat corpses. They only have garbage and no coins or magic items.


STORM MOON 22nd

Day 51.

It is raining light rain so we will take a penalty to attacks.

Jacob speaks to the Wererat and he says that his lair is nearby. It is 2 miles north west.

All of the Wererats we fought were all of them.

John now has the Longsword +1 formerly given to Lygan.

The Wererat says that the lair is a crawlway, big enough for rats. Humans would need to crawl. He leads us to the north west.


ROLL SURPRISE

Not surprised.

We head up 2 miles to the lair.

There are ramshackle chairs around a bonfire and other crude planks of furniture. It is presently unoccupied.

Jacob tells the Wererat to go once we find the lair.

  • Lusia casts Dust Devil.
  • Josalyn casts Find Traps.
  • Xrith braces for an attack.
  • Oswald casts Prayer.

We lose initiative.

No movement comes from the hovel. Dust Devil takes 3 rounds to cast.

Nothing comes out of the hovel at the end of the round. Coming out finally are the Giant Rats! (Wererats)

There is an immediate Morale Check. They fail their Morale and flee.

Xrith and Lygan stand outside guarding.

Jacob and Josalyn go inside the tunnel, its muddy and gross with fur and scraps. Like a Rat hole. Half buried in the much is a chest, stuck in the ground. It detects as having a mechanical trap. It is centered around the latches around the chest. Jacob pulls the chest with his exceptional strength and drags it outside.

The chest is outside along with all of our characters.

Xrith opens the chest using the tip of his lance. There is a black substance on the end of his lance. He removes it.

The guide takes a bunch of copper but we ignore it and get no treasure.

No encounters on the way but we make it to the Clan of the Coil!


900 Barbarians here. It is an encampment in the plains around a Zigurat. The plains spread out all around us. We can see in the distance the tip of the Twisted Ziggurat of the Final Coil. The Clan has guarded this place for a long long time.

The Clan protects the Ziggurat and prevent anyone from entering due to evil magics within. The stewards of Honor Canyon which are 20 - 35 miles to the South West where Barbarians must defeat a challenge where they are beset by Earth Spirits.

We deliver the message beads and they thank us and invite us to stay for as long as we want to. Jacob talk about the Bandit Camp that is 10 miles away and that they have a Magic User.

Seleb is 7 hexes away via the plains. They will send us with a guide to Seleb in exchange for a message we can deliver back to the Ukhatu up north.

They no longer trade with Seleb since it was rebuilt. A great Locust caused a calamity and the magic nearly spread into the Honor Canyon but was stopped by their glorious members of the Clan of the Coil and some adventurers to the north.

The People of the Rock have taken over the town and the Clan of the Coil no longer trades with Seleb.

We head out…


STORM MOON 23rd

Day 52.

Half of the buildings have been rebuilt now. We see the People of the Rock in the white robes. The population is about half of Ainsatis. Our presence is not really noted.

Seleb is a way point for the Silk Caravan so they have some items. There are no banking services here, we have to be in the 6 cities.

A silver flail is 200 gp. Oswald loans Lusia 200 gp gems for the flail.


STORM MOON 24th

We head back to the Clan of the Coil.


STORM MOON 25th

We head back to Ainsatis but have to camp outside this night.

No encounters this evening.


STORM MOON 26th

We make it back to Ainsatis. There is a ferry that crosses the river that must be paid but our upkeep covers this.


STORM MOON 27th

We arrive in Sihul camp.


STORM MOON 28th

1 day back to the Kahhed Clan.

We have an encounter in the Scrubland.


ROLL SURPRISE

Jacob on his Hippogriff is not surprised. In the scrub, he flies over 3 10' long Beetles. They are arranged in a triangle and feeding off a large big horn sheep.

Jacob flies back and informs us what he sees. They are 10' long Stag Beetles.

We avoid them.

COMBAT AVOIDED


We arrive back at the Kahhed Clan.

It is the FESTIVAL OF GEOS!

The Kahhed Clan has a payment for us. They are thanked by the clan. We are each given a Bighorn Sheep Horn Knife, wrapped in Gila scale. The other clans will know we have done a favor for the Ukhatu Tribe.

They each have a value of 220 gp.

They give us a balm that staves off the effect of Scorpion, Snake and Spider venom if it is applied daily. It works for 8 days or 16 days if in the Southern Badlands.

It works as a Slow Poison.

16 units of Balm of Slow Poison.

We will continue with the Treasure Map next…


We head south toward the Badlands.


DEAD MOON the 1st, 498

The Weather is clear as we set up.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are surprised.

Jacob is awake on Watch 1 while we camp.

We are in Hills.

It is 13“ away.

Stag Beetles show up, 6 of them! They move toward us. They are at a distance of 12.4”

  • Jacob moves to engage.
  • Briiz puts on his armor.
  • Josalyn moves to engage.
  • Sapphira mounts Shadow and charges.
  • John charges.

Sapphira gets her attack first, must hit AC 3. Sapphira does 13 damage to one.

John hits for 8 damage on a charge.

4 attacks on Sapphira and 2 on John. 2 attacks on Sapphira and 2 on Shadow. They are non intelligent, they have two horns and a bite.

Sapphira is hit by 1 horn for 5 damage. Then another horn hits for 9 and then the bite for 10. Total of 24 damage!

Shadow has AC 5. The horn hits the steed for 3 and 12, total of 15 damage. Two horns do 6 and 1 damage for 7 damage. Bite does 7 damage. Shadow is dropped!

John is attacked twice. He is hit on a 10, He takes 9 damage from the Horns. Bite hits for 9 damage. Total of 18.

Jacob and Josalyn are not in melee.

  • Lusia charges.
  • Lygan puts on armor for 5 rounds.
  • Oswald casts Light.
  • John does a fighting withdraw.
  • Sapphira must save to see if she is pinned. She is not, she can fight but she withdraws.
  • Jedor charges in.
  • Xrith mounts up and starts shooting.
  • Josalyn activates her rod.
  • Jacob moves to engage.

We lose the initiative.

This is going to be lethal.

4 attack John, 2 will attack Sapphira. No hits on Sapphira. Horn does 7 and bite does 8, 15 total damage to Sapphira.

John is hit by all of them. 11 damage from the Horn, drops him to -1. John is DROPPED!

Sapphira takes 9 damage and is DROPPED to -7, Dead but she has a Ring of Regeneration.

Josalyn uses the rod which gives her a +4 to AC. She has AC -5 for 10 rounds.

Oswald's spell blinds a Stag Beetle. -4 to attacks and saves.

Xrith hits for 6 damage with an arrow.

Jedor charges and hits for 6 damage.

Lusia missed.

  • Jacob and Josalyn engage.
  • Lusia attacks on her mount.
  • Personata stays back.
  • Oswald moves up but does not engage.
  • Jedor attacks.
  • Xrith shoots his bow.

We lose initiative.

Lusia and Jedor are in melee. Blind one hits Lusia AC 5/7. They need a 12. Two horns hit for 6 damage total. Not blind one needs an 8, one horn hits for 6 damage.

4 attacks on Jedor. They need 4's, they take 8 and 10 and the bite does 12, total 30 damage, JEDOR IS DROPPED!

Lusia is attacked by a horn and a bite for 8 damage and 13 damage from a bite. 21 total. Rear attack on Lusia, 1 horn and a bite for 9 and 12 damage, she is at -10, TOTALLY DEAD!

LUSIA is dropped.

Xrith missed both shots.

  • Xrith will back up and take shots.
  • Jacob and Josalyn still attack.
  • Personata gets on her horse and heads back.
  • Oswald casts Prayer.
  • John is down -1.

Jacob goes first. He hits for 15 damage.

Jacob has AC -5 so they only hit on 18s. Missed, 1 hit for 8 damage which does STONESKIN. 3 hits on Jacob, 16 total damage and his armor is broken from 6 points. He has AC -4/1

3 attacks on Josalyn. She has AC -5, 1 hit for 9 damage. The rest missed.

Xrith hit for 2 damage.

Jacob did 18 damage. Josalyn hit for 8.

Xrith is out of range of Prayer.

  • Xrith will continue to shoot at 16“ away.
  • Jacob and Josalyn fighting withdraw.
  • Oswald shoots a sling bullet.
  • Lygan stops putting on his armor and follows Xrith.

We win initiative.

  • John uses DIVINE INTERVENTION, which fails.
  • Lusia uses DIVINE INTERVENTION, also fails.

Jacob and Josalyn are backing away, picking up their bodies.

  • Xrith sees the Stag Beetles dragging away our companions. The Blind Beetle will not take one.

The Beetles disappear into a hole 10s of yards away and Jacob cant see them.

DEAD MOON the 1st, 498

We discuss options for rescue, including using a decanter of endless water to flood the Stag Beetle hole.
