We are returning to Mon-Karag Bastion which lies beneath Mombafra and is reached by the exposed well.
Before leaving, we hire a Linkboy.
Our light sources include the Linkboy's Torch and Adaeril's magic sword which also sheds light.
Down the well, and we return to the depths. We enter into a chamber on the far eastern side of the dungeon.
There are great pillars of granite rising up in here, one every 10' or so. There is a single twist of jade about 8' up on each pillar that is carved with a spiral pattern which then rises up all the way to the top of the pillar. The spirals are entirely made of jade.
Adaeril pulls out the Rod of Alertness and uses it to Detect Magic. The swirls on each pillar have a very faint magic to them. It is at this moment when two normal-sized Rats run past…
Right when they get to us, the Rats transform into a skeleton with a horrendous stench of “death breath”.
Adaeril manages to cast the Protection From Evil spell before the Skeletons can get to him. Rhinock is attacking them and has to hit AC 3. The Skeleton leaps back from Rhinock who misses and then his second attack hits for 9 damage. The Skeleton screeches in pain!
They move into attack and are attacking the Linkboy who normally tries to stay back. Both of them are trying to kill the Cleric who attempted to turn them.
One Skeleton does 2 damage to Katirel who must Save Versus Poison. LUCKILY, HE SAVES!
Adaeril attacks with his sword but MISSES. Rhinock strikes the same one and hits, causing it to collapse into bone and dust. The others move in to attack Adaeril this time but he defends against the attacks. One of them misses Katirel as Rhinock hits again for 8 damage, cutting its head off at the neck bone.
After the fight, we examine the bones and creatures. There is no mundane cause of the sickness, but these Skeletons can somehow turn into Rats.
We return to examining the chamber. Katirel touches one of the jade swirls and notices that it makes a ringing sound. Adaeril touch another but it makes a different tone.
Every pillar has the same thing, jade swirls of magic that cap each one. Each pillar produces a different note as Adaeril moves through them to try and discern a melody or series of notes. He touches the last pillar and he feels a very tiny prick of a needle! It is Poisoned!
Rhinock is the only one left standing!
He comes face to face with a massive floating eyeball that is 15' across. It looks exactly like a Beholder…though, it is not a Beholder but a fungal creature. The Eyeball just hovers there.
Rhinock and the Linkboy skirt around the eyeball as it just floats there idly.
The two survivors manage to escape the Mon-Karag dungeon and they are able to return to the surface.
The eyeball creature was a GAS SPORE.
He has to take trips so Rhinock goes back alone to get more PC's bodies out of the dungeon.
We discuss the ridiculous name for our group and how we became the THIGHS OF ADVENTURE.
The new party returns back to the dungeon and to the same room where all our companions were poisoned.
Greda believes that there is a secret door in this chamber with the columns. Rhinock, trying to unlock the secrets of the pillars, takes his sword and touches the swirl but nothing happens. Jek examines the area for traps. He finds that a small portion of the jade strip has many tiny needle-like things poking out, like a bunch of tiny hairs.
The needles can be jammed downward so Jek is able to jam them easily and disable the trap. They were made of very thin needles of metal. With the trap disabled, Fothas touches the final one and it produces a note. Nothing else happens.
We go back the way we came to go find some stairs leading down. Ignoring the stairs for now, we go to the room with the giant hookah. We then come into a hall with many feast tables, and benches. They have all been toppled and abandoned and the area is covered in debris.
There is some movement from the way we came in and we can hear something is moving, like skittering about.
Jek goes to hide behind the left wall bench as 5 Giant Ants crawl down the stairs and immediately join us in melee. Jek is now trying to move silently to get into melee.
Rhinock misses his attack and Greda takes 5 damage from an Ant. Rhinock is also bitten and takes 2 damage. Fothas hits for 9 damage, but this does not kill one. Rhinock tries to cut a Giant Ant thorax apart from behind but misses.
Jek fails his Move Silently and he is now also a target. There are two attacks on Fothas but both missed. Rhinock is hit for 5 damage and Jek takes 3 damage.
Jek misses a retaliatory strike but Greda does 6 damage, which kills one! There are 4 Ants left. Fothas hits for 6 damage and then there are 2 attacks on Greda. One hits and she takes 3 damage. Another attack on Jek does 6 damage and Rhinock hits and does 8 damage.
Fothas takes 2 damage while Rhinock is hit 2 times and takes a heavy 12 damage. Jek attacks and hits finally! He does 4 damage and Rhinock hits for 10 damage, though they all live. There are 4 still alive. There are 3 attacks on Fothas. One of them hit for 5 damage and another is on Greda, who takes 1 damage.
Jek kills one Ant after striking for 5 damage. There is one attack on Greda who takes another 3 damage. One attack on Rhinock misses as Jek also dodges one attack.
Jek retaliates again and does 6 damage but this does not kill it. Rhinock does hit as well, and this killed one. Rhinock hits again for 9 damage, which kills another one!
The final Giant Ant flees but we cut it down! All the Ants are now dead!
A turn passes after combat.
We are in the room with the dead Goblins and there are some tiny lines through it. Forthas enters the hall and climbs through the hole in the dark. On the other side of the illusion is a very decayed Goblin corpse that is rotting away.
There are several sconces covered in a yellow powder and the statue of a nude woman with bat wings. One of the sconces is a lever. Jek found an empty tube in here that was made of metal and pointed out.
We decide to pull the lever and the sconce is pulled. Suddenly, a wall comes out and there is an empty tube. They pull the other sconce and a yellow powder sprays all over the party. We found a trap…
All of us must make a saving throw versus poison.
Greda is the only one that survived from this party…she gathers up our belongings and prepares to head out.
Greda leaves and makes it out of the dungeon without incident.
THERE IS A FIGHTER SCHOLARSHIP FUND OF RHINOCK THAT HAS PLENTY OF FUNDS.
She returns to Mombafra and we end on…
