CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS SESSION

On doors this session is Fandillas, Jacob and Thorgard.


RECAP

  • We made it back to High Dell successfully after finding a box in a Wolf den. The we set out for Solat Peak once again and made it to the Sphinx Statue Teleporter, which we took to the Pyramid of the Chariot, also known as the Pyramid of Anis'Lyl'Lisiv, the family name of the one(s) buried there long ago. We encountered Ghouls and Skeletons, all dispatched successfully.

Delemir joins the group before we continue.


Blood Moon (6) the 25th, 496

Maervahr casts KNOCK on the secret door we found in the Chariot chamber.

The wall detaches from the ground and it grinds upwards. This reveals a tunnel going up at a 30 degree slope. When the door lifts all the way to the top, we can see that the incline reaches all the way up into the sky, revealing the daylight above.

We map out the long tunnel, which leads to the outside. It extends out the base of the pyramid at ground level leading to the outside.


The party returns back inside to finish exploring the areas of the interior that we missed. We search the walls on the east side of the Gynosphinx statue chamber.


ROLL SURPRISE

There is suddenly a wet thump and some dripping sounds behind us. As we spin around, we see a couple of big Toads looking back at us.

Maervahr casts WEB.

Meanwhile, others prepare to receive a charge. The Toads have an AC 6.

As the spell finishes, the Toads are easily able to avoid the Web due to the casting time and the spell has no effect. It is not possible to target creatures that are able to act with a spell like this.

Josalyn is attacked by a Toad, but it misses. Thorgard is also attacked and takes 5 damage. Erasma is missed.

Maervahr casts Burning Hands this time and his spell actually works! One toad is scorched for 8 damage.

So far we have killed 2 of them but they all still get their attacks.

  • One attacks and misses Jacob.
  • One attacks and barely misses Maervahr.
  • Another attacks and misses Josalyn.

Another one attacks Maervahr and hits but he takes no damage due to Stoneskin. A total of 3 Toads attacked him and only the one hit. Maervahr immediately goes psionically invisible and steps away.

  • Erasma hits one for 5 damage.
  • Delemir hits one for 7 damage.
  • Fandillas hits another one for 10.
  • Thorgard hits for 10 damage.
  • Each Sabertooth Tigers hits, dealing alltogether 2, 1, and 10 damage.

All of the Toads are dead!

COMBAT ENDS


Maervahr collects some Giant Toad parts.

In the chamber of the 15' Gynosphinx statue, we read the words in Elvish on the dais around the base. The dais is made of sandstone and is covered in wild carvings of lightning going into clouds, which leads up to an arc above the columns. The two Golem pedestals are still empty.

Under Mooun's sky blessed of Fir'syl the House of Anis'lyl'lisiv sleeps untroubled. 

Maervahr's understanding of Elvish, he knows that Fir'syl is the Elvish spelling of Foresi.

Maervahr searches behind the statue but we do not find anything in this room at all. When we push open the door, we enter the chamber of the great disk.

In the room, all of the walls are embossed with a depiction of storm clouds over tree tops. There are some empty standing candleholders of brass and the walls are not natural but with smooth sides. The candleholders are equal to the size of the large stone disk.

We notice some fresh water on the floor but the ceiling looks dry. We take a moment to listen by tapping for secret doors but Jacob does not hear any hollowness on the west wall.

We read the inscription here, also in Elvish:

Outsiders and outcasts doomed
By this way descend now to their end
Frozen below or above
It is all the same to the wind. 

The ceiling here is 15' tall. Fandillas goes to speak to the Sphinx statue, “Hear my word Mooun…”

He then reads the poem aloud in Elvish but nothing happens.


Moving on, the party went up a 35 degree incline and entered the south room. We find several knives, pins, glass jars, a long vellum holder, and two stands on the west wall. It appears to be a ritual room. We tap the walls for about 10 minutes and do not find anything.

The candle holders are all empty.


ROLL SURPRISE

Another group of Giant Toads is spotted on the outside of the Pyramid, along the slope, but this time there are 9 of them!

We are surprised

The toads are sticky and appear to bathe in the sun. One of the Toads burps up an entire rabbit skeleton, but they do not move.

They are all on the slope below us. The pyramid is made of big blocks and was constructed step to step. There are Toads are all over the side of the pyramid.

COMBAT AVOIDED


We climb up to the pyramid apex where we can see over the tops of the trees and stand approximately 200' up above the ground. These are small trees compared to what we know of Wyrin'wa. Based on Elvish tales, there could be more pyramids all over this forest. Despite our theory, the top of the pyramid is not encased in electrum and it looks normal.

Maervahr pulls out the Sheel'sadorin amulet which points to the east. The tugging feeling on it is very weak indicating that the location must be far off yet.


Thorgard taps along the walls, leaving no stone unturned. Eventually, our torches go out and there is no hollowness discovered anywhere down the incline.

We descend down the 50' pit at the top and find that it goes into a curve and then continues to a lateral tube. There is the blood of the previous battle on the ground and an open sarcophagus that is surrounded by corpses. There are notably less corpses than before.

Maervahr taps around the sarcophagus. All of the walls feel solid so we start moving the sarcophagus. Fandillas and Jacob together are able to move it. As it is flipped over, it crashes into the dead bodies lying behind it. Lying below where the sarcophagus formerly sat is a clear rectangle of clean floor.

This burial chamber was of a servant and not of a lord or patriarch.

Fandillas discharges his shocking grasp on the column and the spell dissipates. Jacob, Delemir and Thorgard all behead the bodies. We go back up the tube.


Once again, we ascend the stone ramp that leads to the surface of the ground among the trees. We climb, stone by stone, up the sides around the pyramid. Eventually we locate and inscription dedicated to Foresi.

Seeing nothing more, we return inside again and we go back to the secret Chariot chamber.


It was obvious that the Chariot takes two reins to operate it and as we search around, we have not found anything new.

With that, it is time to return and make camp.


We pass through the “Way-Sphinx”, returning to the dungeons beneath Solat Peak. We get back to the camp a little past nightfall.

The party camps overnight beneath Solat Peak and the night passes calmly.


Blood Moon (6) the 26th, 496

The next morning, Maervahr casts Stoneskin on himself.

Thorgard has a 30 pound bag of flour to keep a trail if we do go decide to head east toward the direction of the Obelisk of Sheel'sadorin.


We return to the “Way-Sphinx” teleporter statues and search along the north wall. There are six obsidian platforms and a destroyed stone pedestal. There was a gem that was found here previously but it was removed and now only a corpse and a ruined stone pedestal remain. Maervahr searches the destroyed stone pedastal.

In the north chamber, we have found nothing. Maervahr decides to use his psionic Detection of Magic discipline while in the north chamber, revealing nothing more and there is no magic aura in this chamber.

Delemir casts Detect Magic and Detect Evil in the chamber with the sarcophagus but no magic or evil is found.


The Frogs outside have since departed.


Now that the entire pyramid has seemingly been scoured, we decide it is time to return to Shin's Castle. Back to the teleporter and we return back to camp and to our horses.

From our camp, we will head back to speak with Shin about what we have found. It is three days to Shin's Palace.

The first day of travel and the night is uneventful.

The second day and night of travel is uneventful.


Harvest Moon (7) the 1st, 496

The third day and night is safe and uneventful.


Harvest Moon (7) the 2nd, 496

We arrive at Shin's Palace unhindered and are welcomed within its walls.

Fandillas memorizes and casts Read Magic on the scrolls we discovered. Meanwhile, the party gains an audience with the great Androsphinx.

Shin declares that he does not know anything about the Chariot we discovered. He was not even sure about where the Sphinx statue would take us once we activated the teleportation magic within. We also learn that Shin can cast spells as a 6th level Cleric.


Fandillas discovers that there are 7 Magic-User spells on the scroll:

  • 2 x 4th level,
  • 2 x 6th level.
  • 1 x 8th level,
  • and 2 x 9th level spells!

The other magic scroll is a TREASURE MAP. The map depicts a Pyramid with a secret chamber.

Here are the spells:

  • FUMBLE 4th
  • CONFUSION 4th
  • BIGBYS FORCEFUL HAND 6th
  • SPIRITWRACK 6th
  • SERTEN'S SPELL IMMUNITY 8th
  • GATE 9th
  • MONSTER SUMMONING VII 9th

We will sell the scroll, which is worth a great sum of coin.

  • 4600 xp, 13800 gp

The party will depart once again for Solat Peak and return on our journey. It is another three days to reach our destination.


Harvest Moon (7) the 4th, 496

The first day of our journey is uneventful and Maervahr casts Stoneskin on Thorgard and on Delemir.


Harvest Moon (7) the 5th, 496

This day is uneventful and the night goes by peacefully.


Harvest Moon (7) the 6th, 496

The third day, we nearly arrive back to Solat Peak.


ROLL SURPRISE

Maervahr is keeping watch and MUST ROLL SURPRISE.

During the evening after the third night of travel, the party is sleeping steadily and Maervahr is keeping watch with his Weasel Familiar called ATENA. Suddenly, Atena perks up and looks disturbed. Something is around us that it cannot detect easily but it senses danger. There is a rumbling sound off in the distance.

Maervahr looks all around and sees something…along the distant mountain line are the forms of 5 Giant Men, marching through the mountains. Maervahr quickly nudges all of his companions awake and whispers to them, “Giants”, while he goes psionically invisible.

The Giants see us and laugh loudly at our camp. Then, they bring forth great boulders and toss them at us like a catapult, high up into the sky. The boulders Fly toward our encampment.

One boulder is flying at Jacob who has AC 6 without his armor. Jacob is struck for 11 damage but the STONESKIN SPELL SAVES him from any damage!

The next boulder is tossed at Josalyn who has AC 10. Josalyn would take 22 damage but once again, the STONESKIN SAVES!

Fandillas is being struck as well and he has AC 0 as he is able to wear his armor overnight. The boulder misses him and goes wide as Fandillas leaps away.

Delimir is also being struck but his STONESKIN SPELL SAVES…However, he is not so lucky as another boulder follows the first and also hits for 14 damage. This one is not absorbed.

Maervahr runs to his Hippogriff while invisible. HIPPOGRIFFS ARE CONSIDERED STALWART and will not flee a battle immediately.

Fandillas casts Mirror Image and now has 2 images of himself. Delimir casts sanctuary which lasts for 6 rounds.

Another boulder is thrown at Fandillas, still with AC 0, and it HITS a Mirror Image which is immediately DESTROYED!

There is a boulder attack against Delemir who has AC 8 and this one HITS Delemir who takes another hefty 19 damage. DELEMIR IS SLAIN!

Fandillas has no Mirror Images left as his last one is destroyed.

One of the boulders misses and the last boulder ALSO misses!

Delemir, a Half-Elf, is raisable if we can get him back. Fandillas grabs Delemir's shield and escapes with it.

Maervahr is in the air now and sees the Stone Giants head off to the north west from where we fought them. He does not know where they are going exactly but they are now a couple of miles away from where we were attacked by them. If he follows them, he could find their cave. However, Fandillas's Familiar, Horus, is able to follow them as well and knows the precise location.

RETCON: DELEMIR IS ACTUALLY ALIVE! The boulders would have missed him.


Erasma is heading back to High Dell.


Meanwhile, in another part of the world, GALERIAN THE ETERNAL IS REINCARNATED AS A CENTAUR!


Once the party regroups, Stoneskin spells are cast on Josalyn and on Delemir, the not quite so dead.

We set up groups for two of the remaining watches.

Perrin and Erasma are keeping watch when…


ROLL SURPRISE

We are surprised.

The encounter distance is 14“ away.

Both of them notice dark movements in the mountains along with some glinting eyes. The figures are quickly moving toward the party and manage to get within 8.8” distance. They can only see 11 dark creatures outside of the campfire light…but they can tell, they are Undead.

11 Wights storm into our camp and they are not turned by Erasma, the Cleric. Maervahr instantly goes psionically invisible.

There is one attack on Josalyn and in retaliation, Josalyn misses. She has AC 3 and the Wight MISSES HER!

Thorgard hits one for 8 damage and there are also no hits against Thorgard, luckily! Erasma is missed as well.

Fandillas has 3 Wights attacking him but they ALL MISSED! He in return, hits for 7 damage! There is one hit on Delemir but the STONESKIN SPELL PROTECTS! He retaliates and hits the Wight for 3 damage, however his strike had no effect!

It is the next round and Maervahr flees to his Hippogriff, Astolfo.

  • Jacob now has an AC -5 and the Wights miss!
  • Josalyn is missed.
  • Erasma is missed.
  • Fandillas is missed.
  • Delemir is missed but then he is hit for 2 damage and loses a level! He loses one Fighter level.

It is known that a Restoration spell can restore a lost level, but they are not easy to come by.

  • There is one hit against against the Tiger for 2 damage and it loses a HD!
  • Another hit against the other Tiger for 1 damage and it too loses a HD.

Maervahr gets away on his Hippogriff as Josalyn and Delemir both attempt to Turn Undead. All of the Wights have been turned by their holy symbols!

The Wights turn around and immediately begin to flee backwards. Maervahr follows and sees that the Wights go only a short distance as they head for a standing stone with an arch. It is located within an opening in the side of the mountain.

Maervahr is going to blast the Wights with a Lightning Bolt from the outside. The Lightning Bolt spell is cast and it blasts 5 of the Wights, 4 of them are still alive. Maervahr pursues them inside the cave, but finds that he cannot see and instead waits outside due to the dark. Maervahr casts Mirror Image.

He gets one image.

Meanwhile Fandillas, Delemir, Thorgard, Tatrin and Lazathu have caught up with Maervahr.

Maervahr sees that inside, this is a crude burial place with broken open tombs but it looks like the lids were lifted off ages ago. He can hear the Wights breathing or shuffling and hacking from about 40' to 60' away.

Tatrin lights up a lantern and Maervahr follows 10' behind Thorgard. Delemir's Bless spell goes off and we gain a +! to SAVES AND TO ATTACKS! Thorgard moves forward with Delemir.

Josalyn fails to Turn Undead and Jacob tries to hit one, AC 5.

Jacob does 6 damage and 1 damage from silver arrows, which KILLS IT! He hits another heavily wounded Wight. After moving 50' ahead, Thorgard and Delemir have engaged the other Wights.

Maervahr casts Polymorph Other on the strongest one and turns it into a Striped Bass!

Delemir FAILS to Turn Undead but Fandillas hits one and does 13 damage, Lazathu does 2 damage which obliterates one. The other Wight resists being turned into a Striped Bass.

Thorgard kills one as the Tiger tears apart the last one.

COMBAT ENDS


We return to High Dell.


Maervahr is copying over Confusion, Bigby's Forceful Hand and Serten's Spell Immunity.

He spends -400 gp for the WRITE spell and spends -400 gp for copying Confusion.

Maervahr gets 2600 gp, plus all else.

The Henchman get 1099 xp.

3498 xp for everyone.
