RECAP

  • There are ancient ruins surrounding Solot Peak of a city called NOTOSOTOMO. To get there requires two days of grueling travel through the mountains, north from Shin's Castle. The cave that we found goes relatively deep beneath SOLOT PEAK. The City of NOTOSOTOMO was once at the foot of this peak. We are headed beneath the ruins to locate a Sphinx statue that will function as a teleportation to Wyrin'wa, where we can locate Sheel'sadorin.

We head out from Shin's Castle and make our way northward.

Eventually we arrive at the Ruined City of Notosotomo and enter through the previously discovered entrance beneath Solat Peak.

As we traverse through the cavernous entrance, we eventually make our way to the curved hallway. We return to the place where we encountered the poisonous Giant Centipedes and stand in front of a double door.

We dont hear anything through the double doors at first but Maervahr uses his Weasel Familiar, ATENA, to try and listen at the door. Hearing nothing, Galeria, the Wolf, smells the door and finds that it smells like a normal door.

We find another door that is constructed of heavy wood and brass reinforcements. Elias finds no traps on this door and Thorgard inspects the door and also finds nothing of note.

Jacob and Thorgard are on door duty.

We enter through the doors and find ourselves in an illuminated room. There are several 8' tall glass tubes that are as wide as an arm and they are glowing orange. We can see an orange liquid inside of them with some little things that look like a gold piece, kind of like a maggot, that are just floating inside the tubes.

We hear some scraping from beyond the distant but high ceiling. The party waits a few minutes to see if something comes through the door but nothing comes.

We open the double doors after failing the first time. On the second attempt, we open it.

There is another odd shaped room. Though, this one has no tubes it is a big, open strangely shaped chamber with a thin opening to the south. The floor is covered in broken glass that looks like the same thickness as the glass tubes from the previous chamber. After inspection, they do appear to also have a curve to them.

Galeria sniffs the glass as we notice that the passage opens up into something in the south. Galeria finds that it smells of Wizards' chemicals. There is also some kind of crystallized residue on the glass shards.

Galeria squeezes through the opening as Elias holds a lantern nearby. Oriyan's torch is out and we cannot see the entire room. The wall to the east is partially collapsed as seemingly part of the mountain came down on the back portion of the room. It was the south wall that is collapsed and there is a three-tiered altar on the east wall. The room was wuite big at one point before part of it collapsed.

Upon inspection, it appears that this is an Altar of Zo but it has been basically destroyed. It looks like the opening was a constructed passage that was going further this way.

ROLL SURPRISE

The double doors behind us are still open when we see a group of animated Skeletons wielding spears and in cowled black robes. They have orange glowing eyes! We count approximately 12 Skeletons approaching.

Maervahr instantly goes psionically invisible and then suddenly we cannot hear anything! One Skeleton does not charge at us with the rest of them and it carries a mace, the bones of a Cleric! Maervahr is invisible but all of the Skeletons that have spears rush to attack.

A Skeleton hits to Tatrin for 6 damage and he goes down at -1 hitpoints! Tatrin is UNCONSCIOUS!

2 others hit Elias for 10 damage in total. He only has 11 hp. Josalyn is also attacked but she is missed.

Josalyn attempts to Turn Undead but only turns 2 Skeletons.

On the next round:

  • Maervahr moves quickly to go behind the mace wielding skeleton.

Josalyn, Elias and Jacob need to save versus spell or be magically Held. Jacob saves against the spell but Josalyn is Held and Elias is Held. There are 4 attacks against Thorgard, 2 against Jacob and 3 against the Sabertooth Tigers.

There are 2 hits on Thorgard for 7 damage. Jacob is also hit and takes 3 damage. The Tigers have AC 6 but they are missed!

Jacob destroys one of the Skeletons and Thorgard hits for 5 damage, another one destroyed! Galeria does 6 damage to a third.

When Maervahr gets close, he can see flicker of armor on the Cleric Skeleton. Meanwhile, one of the Tigers destroys one. The other Tiger destroys another one there are now only 6 Skeletons left with spears. In the meantime, Tatrin has been bandaged.

On round 3:

  • Maervahr casts Sepia Snake Sigil on the mace wielding Skeleton.

There is suddenly a booming voice from the Cleric Skeleton as it cries out terribly, “FLEE!” This was a spell directed toward a Tiger, but it does not flee. The Cleric Skeleton has AC -2.

Maervahr draws the Sigil in the air to conjure forth the Amber Snake but the form misses the target! It breaks harmlessly upon the Skeleton's armor. The Sepia Snake Sigil has missed and has no effect.

Jacob hits for 15 damage and the first Tiger hits for 2 and 9 damage. The second Tiger does 5 damage. This destroys 5 of them!

Then, Galeria is hit for 5 damage as another Skeleton hits a Tiger for 4 damage.

Gazing upon Maervahr, who is now visible, the Skeleton goes, “DIE! DIE! DIE!” while pointing toward Maervahr! He resists the spell…

Round 4:

Thorgard hits the Cleric Skeleton for 4 damage and then the Tigers do 2, 1 and then 9 damage. Maervahr attacks but misses with his gnarled staff. This causes the Skeleton to retaliate and he is also being attacked!

Maervahe has an AC 3 versus a mace…MAERVAHR IS MISSED! Following this, Maervahr goes back to psionic invisibility and steps aside.

  • Galeria hits for 4 and 1 damage.
  • The Tigers hits for 2 damage.
  • Thorgard hits for 3 damage.

On the 5th Round:

The Cleric Skeleton turns to Jacob and attacks. JACOB IS MISSED!

Maervahr charges the Skeleton again with his staff as Galeria is hit for 3 damage. MAERVAHR ATTACK HITS AND HE DESTROYS THE SKELETON!

The Tigers also attack and do 5 and 6 damage.

THE ROBED SKELETON IS DESTROYED!

COMBAT ENDS

One turn passes after combat…then ANOTHER turn passes. Tatrin awakes from his coma. He can only move while being assisted.

Maervahr uses his psionic Detection of Magic on all of the items held by the Skeletons. There is a strong aura coming from below the cloak, revealing a magic ring on the skeletal left hand.

  • MAGIC RING (id 87) Ring of protection +4, +2 saves
  • Platemail (Tatrin).
  • Mace (Tatrin).

Jacob feels an incredible power from the ring and he gains a +4 to AC!

We decide to spend a little while to determine who gets the ring. After rolling off against all members of the party, Thorgard wins the ring!

Elias is healed back to 19 hitpoints.

20 minutes has passed in game.

We decide to take a right after dropping off Tatrin.

At the end of the passage, we heft ourselves up onto the ledge and move to the right.

The elevation rises twice until we come across two humanoid skeletons, their bones strewn about with one in leather armor. The armor looks melted and Elias thinks it was due to acid. Alongside them are some thick dead roots. The roots have not shrunken back down. We search them and find that both skeletons have satchels.

At this point, Galeria becomes a Giant Bat, shifting form as a Druid.

  • 60 sp
  • 10 gp
  • An iron key

We go up to where the roots were encountered last time and we find that there is a new set of thin white roots along the passage way. Thorgard burns the roots which curve around to the left. The crackling noise of the burning roots gets farther away from us.

Galeria uses echo location to scout ahead and spies the movement of single creature. Galeria returns to us and says, “Let's approach with caution.” She whispers this to Thorgard.

We detect a rustling coming from up ahead and as a result, there is no chance to be surprised. Also thanks to Galeria.

COMBAT BEGINS

Maervahr produces his Wand of Defoliation. Charging into the light are more of those Cone Vine creatures!

Maervahr immediately uses the WAND OF DEFOLIATION and it does 16 damage to the creature. However, It is NOT DESTROYED!

The Cone Vine creature attacks with long vines that it is whipping us with. It attacks Jacob first and does 4 damage. Thorgard strikes back and does 8 damage. Jacob also retaliates and does 13 damage.

They are both CUT DOWN!

COMBAT ENDS

Josalyn uses Cure Light Wounds on Jacob as one turn passes

Just outside the light, we find a humanoid corpse which still has some markings on the armor it was wearing. There are metal ornaments scattered around that were once attached to the armor. We recognize these as Hobgoblin clan ornaments. It is a Scale Mail type of armor that is undamaged otherwise.

Maervahr uses detection of magic on the armor and finds that the scale mail is MAGIC! After testing it out, we discover that it has a +3 to AC and provides half the normal encumbrance. It provides a +3 to some saves also.

Jacob tries it on to spar with Thorgard which lasts for 2 turns. Meanwhile, Elias investigates the body and thinks that the corpse was killed within the last week.

We go back to the room with the smashed altar after squeezing past a crack. We approach the three tiered altar of Zo. There appears to be no items on the altar. We could possibly find more information from Temple of Zo in Mombafra.

We do not find anything on the altar after searching but Thorgard thinks this was a natural collapse along the south wall. We do find a piece of the wall that once had carvings on it.

  • Chunk with carvings (100 cn)

Back in the room with the tubes, we take a moment to listen. It is all quiet to the west. We check the glass tubes once again which contain something that looks like a larva from an insect. None of them seem to be moving. They do not look like Giant Fly larva and we can see that the liquid they are floating within is glowing orange.

Galeria, the Druid, is able to identify it. These are a type of larvae from a Patir, known as a PATIR LARVA. They are a very powerful hallucinogen. They can cause hours long hallucinations but they give the consumer the ability to detect magic as a Magic-User.

Galeria draws something on the ground to communicate with us in the form of a Giant Bat using Maervahr's chalk. This is how we learn what she knows of the Patir.

We can see a bit down the passageway which has a very high ceiling. The wall is 20' tall and then the passage abruptly ends, but leads to a chamber. The chamber is very big at about 80' across and there is a big mass in the middle of the room.

Elias is setting up a trap in here.

ROLL SURPRISE

The Surprise roll is for Galeria, who flew off into the darkness alone to scout the area.

Using her echo location, she finds a huge platform connected to a 20' high wall and she is surprised for 2 segments.

There are two charge attacks against Galeria FROM THE AIR as she detects 2 masses that lift off the ground and charge straight at her. They have to hit AC 8 for Galeria. There are 6 HITS for 13 damage and then on the next segment they do another 16 damage! These are Man sized flying things.

Galeria turns into a BEAR…NVM, she does not.

On round two, Maervahr casts Mirror Image. This results in only 1 image. There are more attacks on Galeria for 14 damage. SHE DROPS! GALERIA IS KILLED OUTRIGHT AS SHE IS AT -10 HP!

Meanwhile, we can see some large looking lenses in here that are aarrayed in such a way as to mingle with the orange light. We spot Galeria's wing lying on top of the altar and the creatures that attacked her are still here: Gargoyles! They are 25' in the air.

On round three, Maervahr runs into the room while psionically invisible to the Gargoyles.

On round four, Maervahr casts Polymorph Other and polymorphs one of the Gargoyles into a CARP and then pops back into invisibility! The Gargoyles are attacking the Sabertooth Tigers. There are 2 hits, one for 5 damage and another 5 damage to the other one.

One of the Gargoyles has been turned into a Carp but the others remain unhurt. They have an AC 5. Jacob hits one for 16 damage. The Tigers are powerful enough to hit the Gargoyles, who can only be struck by magic weapons. They barely effect the Carp but eventually the Tigers kill it!

COMBAT ENDS

After the fight, we collect the objects we spotted.

  • 8 Lenses of various sizes.

Maervahr gathers up all of Galeria's body parts as Jacob uses the key on the door.

Beyond the door is a room containing hundreds of pounds of weird odds and ends and other unusual materials. It looks like there are numerous things that would be used for spells and potions and a huge amounts of incense which appear to be dedicated to the worship of Zo. There are some small jars containing the Patir Larva but these look dried. We also find some weird roots in a jar.

Some of the stuff is most likely quite valuable. Maervahr begins to gather up all of this stuff, including the roots and ingredients.

There is another door leading out which we open up with no trouble.

This area has a low decoration in the chamber of some kind. There is a copper basin filled with water, a font and a table with a chair. We surmise that this could be holy or unholy water in the basin.

We tap the walls for secret doors but they all seem solid.

We then go into the east room where we discover TWO HUGE STATUES with very elongated faces that look like a “Scream” mask, or like a “Scooby Doo” style mask worn by a “Voodoo Shaman”. Something has RIPPED APART THE STATUES.

The door to the south is scarred also and the scarring seems recent. There is stone on the ground where they were partially destroyed and the wood has been revealed though it is not discolored yet, as it would be with age.

We head back to Shin's Castle and determine that ORIYAN gets the +3 Scale Mail.
