RECAP

We encountered a neutral good party fleeing through Jacob's Goldleaf domain and they told us about an Elven Ruin where a Black Dragon had dwelled. They arrived and quickly moved through a few rooms of the dungeon, using Cleric spells like Detect Lie to make sure the Black Dragon was telling a lie. They encountered some Elven Undead and lost two Magic-Users. They gave a description of the rooms and will offer us a reward for the return of Apoli, one of the Magic-Users. There was some sort of resistance to the Undead to Turning. They learned of a room in the dungeon, with a defensive enchantment on it that the Dragon told of. It was near the Dragon's lair with an inscription or art on the wall. It was described poorly and the Dragon itself did not pass through this way.

It is shielded by trees but there is a collossal relief on a cliffside that we will recognize. It is 20 miles west of Reir'al, where we captured the Copper Dragon.


Rose Moon the 17th, 499

The weather is clear.

The party of adventurers, including Alexios and Korrak, will be escorting the builders from the Six Cities to Goldleaf to begin construction of the Castle.

We will be stopping in Eliope. There will be an additional 100 men accompanying the group, regular Humans, that means we have a large group moving across the Sea of Grass. Jacob has already purchased all the materials for his castle.


ROLL SURPRISE

Both parties are surprised, including the Hippogriff Riders.

We see that the rear party have been ravaged by a group of lions, attacking the rear of the party. We are in the Sea of Grass. They are 11“ away. They are charging during the surprise segment.

  • Jacob and Josalyn are diving on the Lions.
  • Alexios charges on horseback.
  • Walker charges on horseback.
  • Korrak charges on foot.
  • Xrith'atiril will land to the rear of the lions.

We get the tied initiative. The Diving Hippogriffs hit for 18 damage. Two of them are terribly wounded. They were large creatures. Alexios hits for 8 damage, killing one. RETCON, did not kill yet. Jacob's Hippogriff does 4 damage.

Four attacks on the Hippogriffs and one on Josalyn or Jacob. Josalyn is struck for 1 damage. 3 attacks on Jacob's Hippogriff which has AC 5. All of them hit for 6 damage, 6 damage and 3 damage. Josalyn's Hippogriff is also attacked for 7 damage. Now is when Alexios kills one!

Korrak is still charging on foot, despite having a Warhorse from Jacob.

Xrith is just behind the Lions. Jacob kills another one.

  • Xrith begins casting Animal Friendship.
  • Jacob and Josalyn attack.

  • Korrak keeps charging.

They have AC 5 and they pass their Morale.

Jacob does 15 damage and Josalyn hits one for 7 and 11 damage. Walker hits for 6 damage. Jacob's Hippogriff hits for 4 damage and Josalyn's Hippogriff hits for 8. Two are still alive. Walker's horse hits for 8 damage.

One of the Lion's is immediately pacified due to the Animal Friendship spell of Xrith. Jacob and Josalyn actually see that one is enspelled. Alexios's Horse hit for 5 damage. One final Lion will attack one of the Hippogriffs.

The Lion attacks Alexios's Warhorse which has AC 7. It takes 2 damage. The final Lion is entirely surrounded and ceases fighting, starts whimpering.

Movement Points are lowered by 1.

There is a 1% chance we are encountered, no encounter. Josalyn casts two Cure Light Wounds on the Hippogriff.

We are force marching to Eliope. In Eliope we find that adventurers have ended the Ogre threat to the south. The adventurers have found a ruined temple in the style of Hakuya. Its in the Eliope hex. Jacob asks how they would feel about joining his domain. They have a lot of respect for Jacob and have heard of the battles he has fought.

The leader has a Village Elder named Wello and 300 people live here. Their patron is Tralf.

The weather is cloudy.


Rose Moon the 18th, 499

The weather remains cloudy. We have 5 movement points and can reach Goldleaf.

The Lion is immediately steadfast and loyal to Xrith with a Reaction check of 108.

We head out to Goldleaf.

We arrive safely and there is light rain.


Rose Moon the 19th, 499

Light rain in the morning.

The builders have been escorted successfully.

Jacob bought a light Warhorse for Korrak. Xrith has a Hawk, Sabre, that he sends up to scout ahead and we will be moving somewhat slower due to the Lion.

We are headed to the hex (5) in the Sea of Grass. The weather is still light rain in the evening.

No encounters.


Rose Moon the 20th, 499

The weather is now cloudy. It is located two to the south west, two to the south west. The terrain of the location is Hills.

As we go along toward Reir'al, Xrith will be scouting periodically. The party will be exploring the unknown hexes.

We go around the hills. It is still cloudy.

There is a possible encounter in the Reir'al hex.


ROLL SURPRISE

We are not surprised due to the Hawk.

It indicates to him that there are herd animals nearby. It spots at a distance of 6 miles. A medium sized castle. There is a building inside of its walls.

COMBAT AVOIDED


This is one hex to the south we head toward the castle. The hawk sees no life and no colors and it is gray.

Xrith flies up with his hawk about 4 miles away. He sees that there is a keep inside of a castle. It is abandoned. The inside of the keep. There is a graveyard inside the keep, much like the one in Delbo. There are three mausoleums and they are covered with moss, blending in with the marshy ground. The structures are sinking into the ground. All three doors are hanging off the mausoleums. It looks like it was constructed sometime less than 900 years old.

The Hawk would notice any hamlets or settlements in the hexes it can see.

We head into the plains.

We are camping for the night. It is still cloudy.

There are no encounters in the night.


Rose Moon the 22nd, 499

It is still cloudy. We head to the Sea of Grass.

We head south west into the Sea of Grass again.

We head into the hills to find our destination. We have our bearrings on the map. It is about a mile and half distance.

We arrive at the site. Uuto will come in with us. We look for the carving on the rock.

The map takes us to a pond. It is very green and a nestled grove of a pond. On the far side through the trees. We see a great rock face, about 120' tall. There is a hill/rock face that continues but where the rock face meets the pond and touches the edge of the pond for 40-50'. On the far side of the pond is a pathway that goes up to a doorway. It is normal size and there is vegetation hanging from a curtain, with overgrowth. There is a great relief carving that takes up the 30' section. 16' tall and 30' long and it looks like a shelf. There is a giant Seahorse carved into it like a bed, it is laying on its side like it is in pain. There is a sword driven straight through its chest, like a sword in the stone. There is a shield in the carving.

Xrith begins reciting Elven poetry and we all gain +1 to attack.

Xrith, Mirella and Alexios all have Continual Light.

We go into the room to expect the trough.


Through the walls, they are masoned and there is a trough with algae filled water. There is a magical trap on the steel door, placed right in the center. The aura is about chest height.

Mirella notices it and Thieves know this is a glyph. Skalf is able to remove it.


ROLL SURPRISE

Alexios is surprised.

There are two Worms that rise up from the pond. They will attack Alexios from the rear. He has AC -2.

He bashes one away and the other one grabs onto him and sinks its teetch into him.

  • Alexios detaches the Worm.
  • Skalf hides in shadows.
  • Omaz charges.
  • Stevie charges.
  • Risten passes.
  • Lyo charges.
  • Mirella says AXUM after drawing her wand.
  • Xrith charges after reciting poetry.
  • Lion charges.

Alexios takes 2 damage but he fights off the second one. Alexios hits it with his sword of swiftness.

Xrith does 6 damage and the Lion does 4 damage. Mirella misses with her wand's bolts.

One Worm is dead! It keeps half its body in the water.

Only half of us can attack it.

  • Alexios attacks.
  • Skalf is still hiding in shadows.
  • Omaz and Stevie attack.
  • Mirella charges.
  • Xrith and the Lion attack.

Stevie are unable to attack this time due to space. The Lion hits for 3 damage and it is still alive. Xrith decapitates the Worm!

COMBAT ENDS


Stevie will start searching the pond, after 2.5'. Up close, the reflection is distracting. It is 6 or 7 feet deep in the middle. The Worms were long but we only saw the top 10' of it.

Xrith and Skalf listen at the door. We hear nothing.

The Door is bolted from our side. Alexios, Lyo and Stevie are on door duty.

The door opens on the second try. We see a passage that goes 20'. The walls are moistened stone, the ceilings are 14' tall. There are some stairs going down and we see a room down the stairs.

The room up ahead is 30' deep with two silver sconces flanking an entry. They are 4' tall. We can see a hallway to the north, with something hanging on the wall. It looks like a circular stone disk that depicts a mask. It is like a tribal warrior motif and the teeth are bared. It has the ears of an elf with the face in fury. It is perfectly stylized, facing west. We cannot see how it is fastened to the wall. We see two hallways to the south.

The wall is carved with lifelike depictions of elves and seaweed. One Elf is twice the size of the others, which could be a deity. She bares in her hand a staff…the walls have paint, she had a golden staff and a brooch cut like a crab, glowing like the halo on her head. There is an inscription. Xrith reads it, and the inscription says “beloved”.

Find Traps is expired. Xrith starts searching with Skalf and Alexios does not detect evil.

Mirella casts Find Traps again. We go south and find a T intersection. A straight hallway to the south and a turn to the west. Down the west hallway we see an opening, going to an archway that leads south. It extends outside of our light.


We head west down the passage to the archway. 30' down is a wooden door inside of a chamber to the south. Beyond the archway is another 30' coming out of a chamber. The wall looks like a division between two empty chambers.

We go into the first chamber and listen at the door. They hear nothing. The door is locked.

We head to the hallway and look into the empty chamber and see a passage to the south.

We rest for a turn and neither of us are able to open the lock. We listen at the southern door and then open it.

We do not open it the first time but do the second time.


20' down the hall is a threadbare archway. There is a door and a room at the end of the hall. We can see wall carvings of humanoids.

We go south and go through the curtain. We instantly recognize the room previously described by the NPC Party.

Beyond the room is another curtain and it depicts animals and Elves that were defaced by something, barely recognizable. There are some coins piled in here and there should be a door to the south where the Dragon kept its treasure.

We continue south and listen to the door. We also notice another door further to the south. We hear something beyond the door. Xrith hears a wet slap. We will go inside…

We burst through the door and find another room with a door.

There are 10 x 20' long worms on a pile of corpses, skeletons and filth.


ROLL SURPRISE

They are not surprised.

The door openers are in melee.

  • Alexios attacks.
  • Skalf throws darts.
  • Omaz goes in to engage.
  • Stevie attacks.
  • Uuto fires a crossbow.
  • Risten passes.
  • Lyo attacks.
  • Mirella uses her wand.
  • Xrith moves in with Omaz.
  • Lion charges.

Alexios strikes first for 7 damage. They have AC 6. This does not kill it.

There are 4 of them on Alexios, one is a rear attack and he has AC -3. One hits and attaches with no damage. There are 4 attacks on Stevie with AC -2. Three worms are now attached to Stevie. Lyo is attacked by two Worms. One attaches to him.

Skalf shoots and Mirella blasts. Everyone gets +1 from Xrith's poetry.

Uuto hits for 7.5 damage and Mirella hits for 3 damage. The Lion charges and attacks one of the ones on Stevie doing 18 damage.

Alexios is attacked misses, Omaz is missed. Stevie is good. Lyo has two on him and he is hit and has one attached to him. One attack on the Lion. It is attached to the Lion. 1 damage to Alexios, 6 to Lyo, 2 to Stevie from the worms.

The Lion hits for 10 total and Xrith hit for 6 damage.

Stevie hits for 15 damage, killing one. There is one on her now. The other is hurt. Lyo did 2 damage and Risten did 7 and 6 damage with a Magic Missile.

Alexios has 0 attached. The Lion has one attached. Stevie has 2 attached. There are 3 that are unattached.

  • Uuto fires a crossbow. NVM, he does not.
  • Risten fires a Magic Missile.

This is a double attack round.

Lyo takes 6 damage. Lion takes 7 damage. Skalf is not hidden.

Skalf is hit and has one attached. Lyo is hit and has one attached. Mirella is missed as she has AC 0/4. The Lion hits for 9 damage and Xrith hits for 13 damage.

There are 7 remaining.

The Worm on Stevie is dead. Stevie kills one on Lyo. There is a Lion worm, Skalf worm, and the one on Lyo survives after taking 13 damage from Magic Missile.

Lyo and the Lion each take 8 damage, 4 to Skalf. There is one free Worm left and it goes after Lyo. It attaches.

  • Melee attacks for all.
  • Risten casts Magic Missile.

Xrith does 10 damage on the one on the Lion and the Lion does 13 damage. That kills the one on the Lion. The one on Skalf is wounded.

There is one on Skalf and one on Lyo. Lyo takes 6 and Skalf takes 7 damage. LYO DROPS TO -2 HP! The worm stays attached and tries to kill him.

Xrith and the Lion kill the one on Skalf. 5 Damage is drained from Skalf.

Lyo was healed for 8 hitpoints from Lay on Hands. He is unconscious.

The worm is draining Skalf for 7 damage, he is down to 4 hp.

We kill the last one!

Lyo is unconscious. Stevie is healed for 8 and 2 hitpoints.

There are scenes of great battle and victory. We see Salt Elves winning a battle agenst the Slugman Scourge. We can see amongst the filth that there are coins sticking out, platinum, silver and electrum. It goes up 12' to the ceiling. There are three more doors.

Risten will cast Invisibility on the unconscious body of Lyo.

Xrith begins searching for traps. The others are resting. Skalf is also searching. We inspect each door and find no traps. Lyo is still unconscious.

Searching through the bodies, they are piled up 12' high. Stevie goes through the pile.

We see the bodies of Kobolds, Goblins, Humans and a couple of Dwarves.

Lyo becomes conscious the next turn and becomes invisible along with Risten.

We go into the next room and see fishmen making peace with the Elves. There is a door. Through the south door.


We see 7 skeletons of Gazelles in the next room. Laying on the ground is the corpse in a red suit which has a terrible slash from its shoulder to its waist. It matches the description of what was described. We see many coins and a necklace with gems. They are tucked into the southern corners.

There is an inscription on the wall.

This hall is dedicated to the elves who crossed the Kinpaginpa to fight the cloud giants. Their spirits will watch over this place.

We collect some treasure:

  • 6700 cp, 1020 sm, 3000 ed, 800 gs, 1 jewelry, 4 gems, 1 scroll, parchment

We search the room.

Risten takes a look at the scroll. They are arcane runes. Risten has a Read Magic scroll.

The scroll is a Treasure Map to another pond that is 6 miles away. It points to the Aviary building. There is a word on the map in Elvish that says “Pawyn'ao”.

Risten wants to carry the dead body. We head out.


We make it out of the dungeon without issue.

We follow the map and find the hamlet that is called Pawyn'ao. It has a stone construction, like Reir'al. The map leads to a building with a door and it is still standing.

We are looking at the building from 100 feet away and only see some brown rabbits.

As we approach the buildings, some of us can see inside due to sunlight. It is sizable with 70' deep and a 35' roof. There are perches for Hippogriffs inside. We see two Hippogriff Skeletons along with an entire Dragon skeletons wrapped around another Hippogriff and another Giant Owl. In the rear of the bones is a single marble statue of an owl. Its wings are 30' wide and there are streaks running through the marble. It is 12' tall.

Alexios senses no evil. Xrith searches on the bones for traps. Skalf searches the Owl. There are no traps on the Skeleton or on the Statue but it looks like the entire statue slides. It slides toward the door and moves 10' on tracks. The tiling has been removed with the ages.

Xrith listens on the ground before the owl. We hear nothing. We need a bunch of Strength to move the Owl Statue. We need 130 points of strength.

All of us together can move the statue, it slowly grinds forward on its tracks. We avoid stepping into a staircase which is 10' in width.

Mirella uses turn undead and she does not see anything down the staircase.


We descend down 20', which opens up to a room, 35' x 30' or so. There is a replica of the winged owl statue but this one is made of brilliant marble and ruby. Hanging off the wings, all along the wings and from its claws are 33 pieces of jewelry.

Neither us find any traps. We discuss how to rest above before checking the owl.

We make camp. It is cloudy in the evening.


Rose Moon the 23rd, 499

Mirella casts Endure Heat. Skalf is healed for 8, Stevie is healed for 8 hitpoints as well.

We return to the previous place and find it unchanged. Mirella casts Find Traps and finds a trap that takes up the entire room. Once we back out into the hallway. There is a magic haze on the hall.

Detect Magic is cast showing magic on the entire wall of haze. Dispel Magic is cast, it has no effect. Mirella is unable to find the source of the trap.

Based on the description but we dont hear of anything we can interact with so we are at a loss. Stevie disbelieves the trap and the owl to see if it is an illusion.

Xrith thoroughly searches the upstairs owl statue. Skalf has searched as well but we only turn up old bones. Once the spells are memorized, Dispel Magic, it will be cast again downstairs.

Risten casts Dispel Magic. He has a 42% chance…actually not correct, he needed 40% and fails.

We will rest again. So far it has been 13 and a half hours. It is now dusk.

Risten failed another chance. Skalf has 2 more hitpoints. We must rest again to try another dispel magic.


Rose Moon the 24th, 499

Xrith does not detect any poison with the owl statue underground.

Round 5 of Dispel Magics are cast. THEY ALL FAIL AGAIN!

We rest again…

ROUND 6 OF DISPEL MAGICS!

Alexios runs in and begins. Everyone except for Mirella grabs the Jewelry.
